Question about ECS 865PE-A rev2.0

I have an ECS 865PE-A rev 2.0 that doesn't boot--power to the fans, but that's all, no beeps--nothing.

Does this board REQUIRE that I use a Prescott in it? I have been finding conflicting info. From the ECS site I find the CPU table here showing I could use Celerons, Willamettes, as well as Prescotts, etc, but ELSEWHERE on the ECS site, I see "865PE-A is designed to support the Intel® new generation Pentium 4® processor, codenamed Prescott. With Prescott FMB 1.5 and VRM 10.0 supported, the 865PE-A meets criterion up to 3.6GHz or above."

The cpu I'm currently using is a Celeron 325 (Prescott!), I know it's good since I tested it in an Asus minitower.

Anyone?

This can be a sign of a faulty CPU fan, or the CPU fan plugged into the wrong fan header. If the BIOS doesn't get a good RPM signal from the CPU fan, it immediately shuts down.

Also make sure you have the latest BIOS, and make sure the 4pin ATX 12V connector is plugged in to the mobo

Okay, I will try another cpu fan and verify the header it's plugged into. The PSU is an Antec 350-something, don't have the model handy. It's the second one I've tried, and the 4-pin ATX cable is plugged in. (How can I update the bios if I can't get it to boot? heh)

Nope, another cpu fan doesn't help and the fan is definitely on the right (CPU) pin header...Tried another good Antec True 380S, no dice. Must be a bad board.

Try a minimal install outside the case. That usually works for me. One stick of ram, video, and cpu/heatsink with the power switch lead attatched. Good luck.

Thanks, but I tried that when I first got the board. I initially used the Celeron D and it didn't boot, so I figured I literally needed a P4 and didn't have one, so it's been sitting here for 6 months waiting for me to TS it. I wrote ECS asking for support on the board because Newegg only covers support on retail stuff for the first 30 days. We'll see.

Did you try clearing the CMOS with the jumper? I believe holding down the insert key during boot will also reset the CMOS.

Also, sometimes the CMOS jumper is set to clear at the factory and you have to move it.

This may sound silly, but do you have the correct memory for the 533 bus?

Motherboards from ECS and PC-Chips usually come with the BIOS jumper on reset by default. Have you checked its on "Normal"?

Thanks for the responses! I tried Kingston PC2100 and PC2700 ddr dimms. Also tried that jumper BOTH ways. I am asking ECS for a RMA.
