Question about evga step up

so.. I am hearing about the 8800gts due out next month. Got my 7950gt. So can I simply step up to a g80 card in march? what are the caveats? what are the conditions? is it worth it?

Let me add in.. if I send in the $15 rebate to evga will that disqualify me from stepping up?

I don't think the rebate disqualifies you, I do believe it decreases how much you get by the amount of the rebate.

Is it worth it? Yes and no. It's a pretty good program, but it looks better on paper than it really is. You send your card in, they let you buy a new one, subtracting out what you payed for the first one. What's the catch? They subtract what you payed, but you HAVE to buy the new one from the evga store. The evga store charges msrp. Do you save a little money if you planned on upgrading anyway? Yes, yes you do. But not as much. MSRP is quite expensive compared to retail.

Just pulled the trigger on an 8800 GTX step up from a 7900 GTO. Granted MSRP is kind of a bitch, but look at it this way: Even if you sold your current card, there is no way you would get what you paid for it back in full. EVGA will at least give you a credit for the FULL amount you paid.

All thats required is that you must be within 90 from purchase, you gotta register your card with EVGA, and you gotta fax EVGA a copy of your purchase invoice once you initiate the step up program.

Id say dont send the rebate. its only 15 bucks, and thats 15 bucks they could take off the GTS.

I decided it wasn't worth it since I live in Canada and may have been charged customs...plus eVGA were charging full retail price.

As it turns out, I made a profit on the 7900GTO I sold and am very happy about that.

Where did you get your 8800GTS from in Canada at a good deal? Most of the sites I know of are priced so much higher than the U.S. - I hate it.

Don't think so. Send it in, then step up

Go for the 8800GTS thats out right now.

The extra RAM is worth it.

No, not for me not this time, though I'd done it twice in the past.
From a 7900GTO to 8800GTX, the $$$ differential out of pocket was way too much for my stomach.
I'd rather wait until both the release of newer dx10 games and the AMD r600 cards then I'll make my decision whether the upgrade is worth it.

I got it at Directcanada.com. It was CAD$540 on launch day so it was a decent price. It's less than $500 right now.
