Question about fan placement..

Okay, I now have 6 fans in my case. Two in the rear, two in the front (both pairs on top of each other) and one on the top and one on the side. I dont really know much about fan placement.. Is it more effective to have the two fans in the rear of the case blowing the air from the case out into the back of the computer? Currently, all fans are blowing into the case. Should I have any as a sort of exhaust and have them blowing the air out of the case? My 9800 Pro runs hot, and since thats near my side fan, I tried putting that as an exhaust, and it really wasnt very effective at all..

Thanks in advance

put the back fans as an exhaust. try putting the fan on the side blowing onto your card if its possible.

I'd put the 2 in the front as intake, 2 rear as exhaust, the window intake, and the top exhaust (since hot air tends to rise).

Doh!

Yes you need exhaust.
Proper setup would be: 2-rear and top -> exhaust, 2-front and side -> intake.
I have the same setup and really like it. If you eliminate obstructions for airflow you can run near silent with low flo fans (ie Panaflo L1A's) and have excellent cooling.

Think about a VGA Silencer for your 9800 Pro. (Dropped my case temps 1 or 2 C compared to using onboard video)

heh, thats what I figured..

Unfortunately, I just switched them and there is no difference at all. CPU temp is still 32c and MB is 30c which is good

Oh well, I guess ill keep em anyway. Thanks guys. And my top fan isnt really a top fan.. its just a fan that I placed ontop of a bunch of wires blowing downwards

thanks for the replys.

There isnt any hot air its blowing down.. I had an extra fan, and so I just placed it up there. The LEDs give it a nice glow up there too. It blows down on my RAM moduels, which have a heatspreader which used to be very hot to touch, and they are now ice cold

And heh, no Im not complaining. I dont know my case temp, is that MB or CPU temp? Ive also got the Air Conditioning on, so when thats not on, my temps are about 35. Which is still good, but I am always interested in making it better

yes, but if your putting a fan at the top of your case, it's blowing the hot air that is trying to rise back down into the main part of your case.

There isnt any hot air its blowing down..

Remember that warm air is lighter than cold air. So, the warmer air in your case moves up. That fan blows that warm air back down against the natural flow of air. Cold air should enter the case from front bottom and warm air should leave from rear top.

Allright, since putting the two intakes in the front, and two exhausts in the rear setup, my temps have increased to 38c. I am going to put the rears back as intake. Weird

Thanks
