Question about IE plugins and their publisher

IE shows a list of add-ons and their respective publishers. Some of the publishers are accompanied by the phrase "Not Verified". How likely is it that spyware or spam can fake the publisher of one of those add-ons? I never delete add ons that I recognize from trustful companies like Microsoft, Apple, Sun, Adobe, etc.

Those companies are the ones to be trusted. Just be sure to download the plugins/players from them, instead of some lesser known sites.

Yeah, the problem is that I repair computers. And sometimes when I'm fixing someone else's computer, I wonder if an add-on that says Microsoft under the "publisher" header might in fact not really be from microsoft, but from a company pretending to be Microsoft.

I've never had any spyware, viruses, or other malware on my own computer since I bought my first one back in 1996.
