Question about LCD, resolution, 9700Pro, and HL2.

Actually for any intense game.....

I'm wondering what are the ramifications if I decide to play HL2 at 1024x768 instead of 1280x1024 on my LCD monitor which has native of 1280x1024.

The benchmarks show a very nice speed increase at the lower resolution.

Will the interpolation effects adversely affect performance thereby neglecting part of the speed increase when switching to the lower resolution on my LCD?

Or will a slightly worse image be the only culprit?

That should be the only problem,do remember on most LCDs you can run lower(non-native res) in centre part of the screen, yes you lose some of the screen size since it`s not using all the screen but it does look excellent.

Wow!

Seriously I didn't know that. I'm gonna have to see if I can do that on my Dell 1702FP 17" LCD.

Thanks.

Go into your advanced display properties and click on the displays tab. Now click on the tab above your monitor and you should see an option for stretching the image to fit your screen. Turn this off and you will be able to run lower resolutions without it being stretched (or whatever you call it).

Actually I think it depends. The graphs of HL2 tests here at AT show the 9600 Pro losing virtually no ground between 1024x768 and 1280x1024. I'd attempt to mess around with bost resolutions, there might be a decent chance that 1280x1024 is more than playable a resolution when you eventually test it out.
