Hello all,

I would like to ask a question about my new bought motherboard maximus v formula.

I' ve noticed that two microchips, between the two pci-e bridges, were connected with a small piece of metal.

As far as I've seen in the reviews, this wasn't existed in the photos. Is it normal? I haven't tested the motherboard yet. That's a picture taken from my m/b: https://www.dropbox.com/s/t1h7osusq547jb8/Untitled.jpg

Thanks in advance for your help.

I looked at mine but that area it's blocked by my lower water block.
-a faster response would be the rog forums , more mvf's there.
-you have good eyes to pick that out.

I saw it copletely by chance, one day that I was looking at the circuits, yeah I know I am crazy.. Anyway, I saw this piece of metal there. Thank God I haven't opened and used the motherboard, and I hope that they will replace it tomorrow when I will take it to the store.

I posted a thread to the maximus forum and the guy that helped me there didn't know why it was like this, he couldn't either see this spot. But he suggested me to replace it.

If you look at neweggs images of the motherboard you wont see that. You can zoom pretty good. I didnt see it on my phone at least.

It looks like its just hanging there, can you grab it with some tweezers? If its not easy to move then I'd think its there for a reason.............

Yeah, I'd want to pry gently under it with a straight pin, it looks like a stray lead to me.

Seconded on the good catch.

Nope, it didn't move.. My thought is that the connection between these two chips was broken, so they put this metal thing there to re-establish it. Anyway I've returned it to the shop just to be sure, that I won't have any problems in the future.

I hope now that they will accept the return and replace it.

I'm pretty sure that is a manufacturing defect, but it may be those components are in parallel anyway, if so it would make no difference. An Asus engineer would be able to find out.

I would have returned it also. I doubt they will have an issue with replacement unless all there stock has the same thing. To me it looks like it was leftover from the manufacturing.

It's possible that on boot up it could have smoked the motherboard and possibly other components with it. I guess it could pretty much burn away without a trace of the cause....If so Asus would not honor the warranty and blame it on user error.
