Question about 'messenger'

Someone I don't want to talk to now e-mailed me where it says 'you have a message in Messenger'.

If I open it, will I just see a message, or will it open some sort of instant messenger dialogue?

Will it notify them if I opened it?

I'll probably just leave it.

FB Messsenger? Don't install that crap. Don't install the FB app either. If you're going to use FB just use the web site. I mean, it spies on you no matter what, but by installing the app it spies on you even more. With all the permissions the app wants you may as well just mail them a key to your house and a list of all your passwords.

I use Swift Facebook for Android. It's a far smaller footprint than the full FB app, I'm just not sure about the spying factors if they are also drastically reduced

That was smart on your part. As a network security engineer in a large insurance company,. I can tell you phishing has evolved into a highly complex art. It is probably the greatest threat to security we face today.

I use messenger lite and just refuse to give it any permissions.

I feel like I've seen those too - spoofed e-mail address or name, so it looks like you know them; or their e-mail got compromised. Do you know that the person actually sent it?

I'm sure they did.

There's a situation I expect them to be trying to contact me on.
