sorry, hit enter. I'm a n00b with building my own pc and i was wondering which company makes the best mobo for intel p4 800Mhz fsb and 533Mhz fsb processors. I don't know if it matters, but I'm looking at the 9800 pro as a video card. If amd is better for the Radeon cards, let me know. Thanks.

no probs, i would read the reviews posted here. it doesn't matter what you decide, intel or amd, for the 9800 card. the card is a good choice. you need to give us more info, what will the pc be used for? what budget.

I am looking at mainly gaming. Total budget around 1200 for the tower and a few extras. I would like to have 1 gig of memory(DDR), p4 2.4 - 3.0Mhz, and the 9800 pro. Is there a real noticable difference between the p4 and amd? Also, how much of a differnce in performance will I see between the p4 533fsb, p4 800fsb, and the amd 400fsb

Read some reviews...here, HardOCP, Tomshardare, and you'll easily answer your own question about the difference in performance between AMD and Intel CPUs. I wouldn't rely on forum advice. People tend to suffer from "whatever I own is the best" syndrom, due to insecurities and what not.

As for mobo, pick one that has the features you want. Then find some reviews, and note the type of RAM they are successful with. The above sites continually put out "motherboard roundups" based on chipsets and such.

Well said. although there are many posters that i do value their advice, but the AMD vs Intel battle sometimes clouds objectivity, they are both fine chips and AMD is usually less in price. I personally use Intel on my own box and AMD on several others.

definately read reviews, i agree totally with these 2. personally i have amd, i know it is not "quite" as fast as intel, but i am fine with 80fps vs 85-90fps and like to save a couple $$$, i am cheap. both setups are reliable if you get a good board. good luck. if i had unlimited funds, i would buy intel.

Another Question....
My current rig looks like this:
AMD Athlon XP 1700 @ 1.49Mhz
640mb of ram
gigabyte 7VAX mobo
GeForce fx5600 128mb

would the Radeon 9800 pro run the same as it would on say a p4 2.8 800fsb? and if it ran worse, about how much would you guess (fps wise). Another thing, I used to have a geforce 4200 ti, but it went bad, and now that I've gotten this new card it will lock up on some games and it will lock up about 1/2 the time when I'm using Internet explorer. I have no idea why. I've reformated, got the most current drivers and even reinstalled ie6, but no luck. I've gone to using Opera, no problems. Any suggestions?

Are you using onboard sound? If so try disabling it and see if the same thing still happens,
