Question about Motel/Hotel rooms.

If a room as 2 double beds in it then it can sleep up to 4 people. Should the price of the room fluctuate depending on how many people stay in the room ?

I need 4-5 rooms for april and this one place I checked wanted to charge me 65 for 4 people and 50 something for less than 4(exact same room). WTF is that? If the room is set up for 4 people how can they charge me extra for that?

Book it for 3 people, and then have the other person walk in a little while later.

As for double beds.. yes, they can fit 2 people in them.

When I reserved a room, I just told the hotel that only I will use the room. How many I really have with me is none of the hotel business. So I only pay for single even I stay in a double beds room (most of the time, except when I have company came over and stayed over night).

But I only need one room. Why don't you reserve the rooms by the internet and just put 1 person for each room. If they ask you when you check in, just tell them that you do it for friends that don't have credit card.

Well from the hotel's standpoint, technically a 4th person will use additional water and make his/her own mess which would be the reason they're charging extra. It's common for hotels to do that. I'm thinking though that most front desk people really don't care though to strictly reinforce these guidelines.

Not to justify what they did, but more people = more cleaning, towels, water usage, etc...

sure they can. its their business. you will use more towels, stain the sheets more, and steal more ice than if the room just had two people in it.

I don't mind them charging more but they should tell me upfront that the rate offered is for 1/2 people instead of jacking up the price later on.
