Question about my CPU Temp.

I have a
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz cpu with a ASUS P5Q-E motherboard and when i go to bios and look at the cpu monitor, it says 44degrees celsius.

I was wondering, since its idling, isnt this alittle too high/abnormal since i am running stock (no OC and stock intel heatsink).

Any suggestions? maybe a heatsink problem?

That all depends on what case you have it in and what the ambient room temp is. But boot the system up and see what core temp has to say about your CPU temps.

Im using the coolermaster rc330 case
the room temp is pretty cool, not hot or anything


when using core temp

says:
Tj. max: 105 degrees C
core #0: 41 degress C 0% load
core#1 : 41 degrees C 0% load

Well temps do seam a bit high so try re seating the CPU cooler. e sure to remove the old TIM and aply a fresh layer. If that doesn't help then you should try improving the airlfow in the case. Sometimes good wire managment can be a big help. Also make sure things are not clogged up with dust.

ok, i reseated by heatsink, but i didnt reapply any thermal paste (since I didnt have any and the system itself is brand new, so i stuck with the stock paste on the intel heatsink) and then went to bios to check the cpu temp and it was at 30 degrees C.

Core temp still says 40 degrees, but realtemp says 30 degrees, so i am guessing core temp is not accurate and that I guess that I shouldn't have anything to worry about.

BIOS usually uses the temperature sensor inside the socket, while coretemp tries to use the thermal diode actually inside the die itself, and will give you a more accurate and therefore higher reading. Perhaps try googling for "Intel TAT" and use it and see what kind of results you are getting.
