Question about Newegg

I recently RMA'd my power supply to Newegg. The RMA process form already has a blank for the step, and the sales order has already been generated. The sales order is on step 3. I know the RMA process should take (according to their site) 3-4 days, not including shipping. My question is: on step 3 of the sales order, would this 3-4 day processing time already be taken care of, or is that what's going on now?

I'm just trying to figure out when I should have my item back. Newegg has only had the PSU for two days now... if they manage to ship it out tomorrow, I'd be estatic.

Honestly you're going to get the best answer if you call/email/online chat with Newegg directly.

Hmmm, I'm not sure of your situation.

I had to RMA a Motherboard to them once, but they just credited back the cost of the MB to me and I purchased a new one and they sent it right out.

Is this some extended warranty thing? Otherwise if it's within the 30day window they should just be able to credit it back to you and you can order a new one. You'll get the credit back once they recieve your defective part.

Nah, this isn't an extended warranty or within the 30-day refund time frame. It's just a replacement RMA.

Actually, I should see if I can still chat with a customer rep, and see what they say. Didn't think of that - thanks for the tip.

I had to RMA an Abit IS7 mobo to them and they credited my card. They ran out of stock on the IS7 and were happy to send me a P4P800 instead. EVen waved the shipping cost for the invonvience of not having the board I wanted.

Whole thing took 3 business days once they got the board in hand.

From Newegg's Site:

RMA Status Legend

Step 1: Your RMA number has been approved. Once Newegg.com receives your RMA, please allow 3-4 business days for the return to process and a replacement to ship or a refund to be issued.

Step 2: Your RMA has been received and the contents of your return will be inspected shortly. If, for any reason, there is a problem with your return, Newegg.com will contact you via email with further details (please refer to the RMA Inspection & RMA Backorder Status Legend when applicable).

Step 3: Your RMA has been inspected, approved and posted. If you opted for a replacement, a sales order number will be generated shortly and you will receive status updates and tracking information via email. If your RMA type is refund, you will be refunded forthwith.

Void: Your RMA is cancelled. Void RMA numbers are null and will not be processed. Your return may not have arrived within the 14-day period authorized or this could be due to a variant that rendered the RMA ineligible for processing. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us for further information.

Status Legend:

Step 1: Your order has been successfully submitted. Your credit/debit card has not yet been charged. Please allow 1-2 business days for your order to process and ship.

Step 2: Verification and fraud prevention measures are complete. Your credit/debit card has not yet been charged.

Step 3: Your credit/debit card has been successfully charged. Please note that you may no longer make changes to your order.

Step 4: Your order contents will soon be packaged and sealed.

Step 5: Your order has shipped. You may view your tracking information by clicking the applicable "View" link above. However, your tracking number may not appear immediately as the shipping couriers update only periodically. Your tracking number(s) will also be sent via email to your Newegg.com login.

Void: Your order is cancelled. Void orders are null and cannot be re-processed. If you need to re-order as a result, please do so on our website. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us for help.

My RMA is on step 3 of the sales form. If you read step 3 of the return form, it sounds like it already completed the return process. I'm HOPING this means my new PSU will be shipping out by tomorrow.

I just talked with a Newegg Customer Rep. All they really said is that it will take 2-4 days to complete the RMA process... I'm hoping for two.

If they say they "charged you" then they are in process of shipping something to you.

I unfortunately had a huge run of bad luck with Newegg on an order placed at the end of October.

I received:

1. A damaged Sony SDM-S234B LCD monitor, with the cover over the front panel loose in one corner, and the bezel on the right warped; fortunately, it works, I'm living with it;
2. A Logitech Z-5500 speaker set shipped straight from the factory, seemingly, but with a defective center channel (whooshing sounds in the center channel even when it was not plugged into anything -- I'm RMA'ing that directly through Logitech, unfortunately they have this item backordered until later this month)
3. Two defective Maxtor 6H500FO SATA hard drives. I RMA'd both back to Newegg, and they claim they only received one, and have thrown away the shipping materials (UPS indicated no damage upon receipt of the box by Newegg in Whittier, CA), so no claim can be filed with UPS.
4. 2 Antec 1050B cases -- I should have known not to order these, as the front panel door came snapped off in both instances, as many have reported, but I've had such good luck with the 1080AMG case in the past, I thought, SURELY Antec couldn't be going into the dumpster producing junk, too -- but, I was wrong. Fortunately Newegg shipped me out 2 new front panels, separately, no charge. Great.

Customer service at the company has tried to be as helpful as they can, but they are not acknowledging their responsibility at this point to make good on the missing RMA, so I'm having to take that to my credit card company to see what they can do about it (they've initiated a dispute on the whole order, which seems overkill to me, but then again, they apparently can't issue a partial refund on a charge, or so it seems so far).

You win some, you lose some, I guess; I'm still hoping Newegg will figure this out. I've been very lucky to not have to have RMA'd an item for many years; I've _never_ initiated a dispute on a purchase with my credit card. This is a first for me, and a shocking one at that, especially with Newegg involved. I've had nothing but good service with them in the past.

Ah well.

No, not angry, just very surprised. I've learned over many years it's best to handle these things rationally. While all sorts of speculation is possible (angry day at the warehouse, UPS drivers playing throw the box, etc. etc. etc.) the truth is usually a lot less colorful, like box fell onto other box on truck, bad day at the capacitor formulary in Taiwan, hot afternoon on the ship my Maxtors sat on in dock at LA after a long humid container ride from Singapore, etc. etc. etc.

I believe Newegg is as convinced they only got one of 2 drives on the RMA as I am sure I shipped 2 drives to them. Best not to make any assumptions and just go through the process.

I have spoken with a number of friends across the country regarding buying online, period, these days though, and it just feels like the chances of getting defective or damaged or missing merchandise are substantially higher now than they have been in the past. Tight margins plus system overload plus shrinking market (home PC builders are probably a very niche breed these days, unfortunately! it's half the fun of owning a PC if you have the patience to wade through all the mysteries and complexity!) means cutting corners and making mistakes, is all.

I do put it in perspective and realize I've managed to put together two E6600-based systems on a recent ASUS P965-based motherboard using RAM not even on the company's recommended list (OCZ, I've had good luck with it in the past) without a fraction of the troubles I see on the internet regarding such a configuration. So, as with everything, it could be worse. I could be a 16 year old girl in Afghanistan about to be married off to a 40-year-old abusive alcoholic religious fanatic as my spouse for life.
