Question about stock CPU heat

A question about heat on a non overclocked system. I recently installed a Intel 2.8b ( 800 ) into my soyo i865PE plus Dragon II MB and the CPU idle temperature is listed at 44c. Running through a 3dMark2003 loop for an hour it peaked at 48c , is this ok? I could remove the stock Intel film/paste stuff that comes on the heatsink and replace it with Arctic Silver 5 ( or something ) but is it worth it? I don't plan on ever overclocking it and the last time I removed the heatsink from a motherboard the seating bracket snapped .

Also my motherboard chipset heat is listed at 31c idle 38c heavy load. Is this also ok?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums Thokor. Your temps sound fine to me, normal.

Thanks for the reply, I must have spent 2 hours on google looking for a decent article on acceptable heat for p4's. All I got was sore eyes and a headache. One place said never let your CPU get above 40c and another said that 45c was average.... I R Confused

Thanks again

Pretty average temps, nothing to worry about, both for the cpu and chipset.

Removing the stock thermal pad (black stuff) is a pita once in has been melted by the heat from the cpu but with a little patience and isopropyl alcohol it can be done, then replace it with a high-performace paste like AS5.
Now if it is worth it is something different, as you do not oc and get decent temps I'd say it definitely isn't worth bothering about.

Your temps seem about right (idle could probably be a bit lower). As long as your cpu temp is below 70C you have nothing to worry about. Check the Intel web site for maximum temps your P4 can handle.
