Question about T-Mobile

My contract with Tmobile ended this month and I was looking to get a new phone (on ebay or in FS/FT) but its too expensive for a V600 or E715. I was wonder if there was a way to keep the current billing plan 29.99 per month, keep the same number, and get a new phone.

Last time I was with my buddy while he was getting a new phone plan and the guy mentioned that the only way to do that is sign with a new carrier all together.

Yeah most carriers will let you renew your contract... Keep the same number, and depending on how old your plan is keep your same plan. All a contract says, if you stay with us 1 or 2 years we'll give you XXX Price on this phone. But if you cancel we'll charge you XXX amount

You can do an "upgrade" which will still be expensive, just not the regular full price. This is really the only way to keep all of that.

i'll tell you waht to do, sign with cingular and bring your own phone. That way you dont' have to sign a contract. But I found that cingular has better recpetion and I get 20% off the monthly bill b/c my compnay has a deal with them so i'm staying, plus the $30 cingular plan is 250 anytime w/ 1000 night/weekend minutes, a lot better than the 300 anytime tmobile has

After 90 days you can come back to t-mobile and get the ridiculous deals amazon.com has

So:
1) Port to cingular
2) wait 90 days
3) port back to tmobile

do remember that you will have to pay the activation fees (may be able to talk out of it) and that cingular might charge you for the sim. not all corporate stores will let you go month-to-month though

Most new phones out there require a new activiation and contract only.

If you want to get a new phone at a discounted price, then you have to call them and ask you want to upgrade your phone, and you are willing to sign a new contract if you can get a decent discount on a new phone. Then depending on how long u have been their customer, and how much do u spend with them every month, they will tell you what kinda discount they can give you.

But dont expect free phones like in new activation contracts at amazon, at least not the new ones.

An alternative is that you can cancell, then activate a new account. The catch is that you would have to wait 3 months between cancellation and signing a new contract, its a company policy to prevent people trying to sign a new contract every year and get a free phone.

Makes sense, I'll go down to the phone store and see if I can work something out with them, if not I'll switch over to a new company like Verizon

You could try faking them out and calling to cancel your plan. Say that you are interested in getting a new phone etc. and they might offer you the E715 or whatever at a discount... that's how I got my E105. It just came out and was going for like $120 or more on Amazon, so I ordered one with a new activation. When I called to cancel my old plan the guy offered me an E105 for $60 and I got to keep my number, so I took that and canceled my order on Amazon.

Call customer care at 611, press 3 at the prompt, and you'll get sent to Retentions. Say you're out of contract and are looking to upgrade to a new phone, either from T-Mo or elsewhere. Shouldn't be too hard to get new-customer pricing on a new phone. You do automatically if you're on a 39.99 plan or higher, but if you're on the 29.99 you'll probably have to go through retentions.

You won't get much better than what they have listed on their website.
I was with them for a year after contract expired, and they didn't do squat for me.

Never underestimate the power of retentions. I was in contract thru September, but still got new-customer pricing on a new phone as well as a new plan... national 1000 min + free night/weekend $39.99.

You don't need to go through retention to get same as new customer pricing on a phone upgrade.

Anyone who has more than a year since their last discounted handset is eligible for an upgraded handset @ new customer pricing. There would be a contract extension required (of course), but any regular agent can do it for you.

The official policy on upgrades though is that you're only eligible for new customer prices w/rebate if you've been on a $39.99 plan or higher. At the $29.99 level though you pay new customer price, sans rebate, + $35. Retentions can give a $29.99 customer a >$39.99 upgrade price.

Try changing carriers to someone that doesn't fsck their coustomers. The reason you don't get those phone deals is because they charge less than anyone else per month. Sprint is the second-cheapest, and gives you the same deal as a new subscriber every 18 months.
