Question about the Jak And Daxter series

Back in the early 2000s, it was either Ratchet and Clank or Jak and Daxter and due to limited funds (still being in high school and poor), I went with R&C and completely forgot all about J&D. The other day I saw the start of a speedrun of the first J&D game and it reminded me a lot of Spyro with the collection aspect.

So, would the Jak and Daxter series fall more in line with Ratchet and Clank in terms of combat on top of finding/collecting hidden objects or does it lean more toward Spyro with emphasis on the collection with simplistic combat? I know the obvious answer is to just go watch some videos, but I detest watching a game before experiencing it for myself - it effectively ruins the experience and I usually don't want to play it after.

I've never played them, but from videos I have seen it looks like it is more combat driven. The later games are actually considered fairly hard.

I'm also curious if there's any major differences between the original PS2 releases and the trilogy on the PSN. I'd like to get the series since it's one I've never played and kinda completely forgot about until recently.

The first one was great. Then either part 2 or 3 was like a fake ass GTA game and that is where the series lost me. Not nearly as good as part 1.

I wouldn't say it's really like R&C because you don't really have weapons like you do in that game. I believe you just like punch or spin into enemies. It may have actually gotten that way though after part 1 I dont' really remember. But part 1 was definitely the best one. The environment was awesome and it was one of the first games I played that didn't have load times between different "stages". It loaded in the background and at the time, it was awesome to go all over the game without any loading.
