Question about Windows IRQs

I have been having a few compatibilty issues with some of the cards I have installed on my system. So, I had to remove and reinstall them once or twice. Yet, I am getting more and more IRQ conflicts. The thing is that in my IRQ listing I have something like 5 or 6 devices called ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering. So, I keep getting warnings about my devices conflicting with this thing. Why do I have all of these things? (Actually, upon counting, I found that I have seven of them. Each one is on a different IRQ.) Does any one know what these are?

Well if you can disable ACPI in the BIOS AND you think that that's the problem, then trying doing that.

If you have an Asus P3V4X...good luck. There's no option to do so in the BIOS. However, I have the same board and find it shares IRQs quite well. Better than most.

Those things are placeholders designed to reserve IRQs for your cards. Funny thing is that they sometimes don't work the way they were meant to by reserving the IRQ from the card they were reserving for.

Try manually specifying the IRQ of the cards in the BIOS. If that doesn't work, you can also go into "Device Manager">"System Devices">"PCI Bus">"IRQ Steering" and try differnt combinations of the check boxes or disable IRQ Steering (which will remove the "ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering" devices.

I'll try messing around with the pci irq steering in device manager and see if that helps.

Forgot to mention it before, but I have an asus cusl2 motherboard if that makes any difference. It is running bios revision 1002.

Turn off (change to no) that you have a PNP OS in the bios. Your board also lets you specify PCI slots and what IRQ goes to which slot. Don't use the first or last PCI slot if you can avoid it. Give that a try - should help with the conflict resolution.
