[Question] Do I need to RMA my Gigabyte 6600GT PCIe?

I am not sure whether or not I should be worried about my 6600Gt or not.
First off, everything is NOT overclocked.
My idle GPU temp is 60C and load 85C.

In Doom 3 it will sometimes freeze (gfx pause, no sound) for a split second then the screen goes black but sound still plays in the background. I need to end the doom3.exe process in task manager to get out of it ("End Task" in task manager won't work).

Also a couple of times in NFSU2 it froze and I had to ctrl+alt+del out of it.

General gameplay is smooth in both games though.

Should I take it back and get them to look at it, bearing in mind these problems occur randomly and cannot really be recreated?

On another tack, is it possible it could be the memory or cpu?
See the links for pics of two other random happenings to get more of an idea of what might be wrong:

Would you provide a list of the components in the system besides the video card? It could be a single component or a combination of components that's causing the problem.

Hi JRez

This is wh3nd4, I forgot my password and had to create a new account.

Anyway, yesterday everything was f*cked, even a new install of windows couldn't boot after the third time, and I had garbled characters on POST when I put the system clock up to 250MHz, but underclocked everything else, like the memory and CPU leading me to think the chipset/motherboard was at fault.
Strange thing is today, I can boot and run programs in windows with the system clock at 285MHz with only a couple of random reboots.

System parts:
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
3200+
GB 6600GT
Kingston 2x512B DDR400
2x200GB Seagate SATA

I have tried enhanced cooling, different monitor, memory, hard drives and graphics card but it made no difference while it was playing up.

This is a really intermittent problem and first started with black screens in Doom 3.

I will keep an eye on it, but any other suggestions or previous experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Are there any programs more strenuous on memory than memtest, or Prime95 on CPU/system?

The Gigabyte version of the 6600gt is known to overheat. It doesn't happen with all of them, but a significant amount do seem to suffer from this. I would just buy an Artic Silencer for it.

This happened with my first Giga-Byte 9700 Pro (the RMA one was fine) and with the chipset on a Giga-Byte KT400 mobo I had for about a week before I got disgusted with it. I will NEVER buy another Giga-Byte product as long as I live, as they seem to cut corners really badly with their cooling solutions.

First thing you need to do is try running the computer with the cover off and point a desk fan at your GPU. If it stops acting up then you know it's a heat issue and maybe all you need to do is improve the air flow in the case.

The superPI 32m test will also stress your mem and CPU, but what you really need to do is set everything back to stock speed. Not sure what you are saying when you set the system clock to 250 or 288mhz and saying you aren't overclocking your RAM or CPU..CPU speed = HTT x CPU multiplier, RAM = HTT x 2..sure sounds like you are overclocking to me..when you set your HTT above 200 did you change the HTT multiplier from 5 to 4 or 3?
