Particularly interested in celeron 2s. Do any of your overclocked cpus run completely stable even when the room temperature exceeds 90 degrees F? I live in socal so that would be a nagging concern. I'm thinking about getting a C2 633 or so and doing 950.

WHat you have there means less than 25%. Do you mean More than 25%?
DOH! You got it. Nevermind. (His subject used to say <25%)

When running a P3 500MHz @ 775MHz this summer at over 100F ambient and near 96% humdity no problems here with a core voltage increase of 2.5% (that's 1.60V*1.025 = 1.64V)... Ran at less than 110F. Both systems I made were identical except for week and origination of processors and motherboards.

I have a 550mhz Athlon which I can run at 850mhz, usually I run just 750-800mhz though. When at 850 I have to set the voltage to 1.9 which is to high for my sake, and it gets very hot, even though I have the biggest alpha heatsink you can get for a SlotA athlon.

Here in Queensland (Australia) room temperature is over 90F right through summer and I have never had any problems yet. Overclocking for over 2 years and that including Celeron 2 for 3 months now.
Cheers

I run a 33% overclock with my 500e PIII at 667Mhz, and as far as I can tell it's completely stable. During the summer the room temperature gets pretty hot, although probably not quite up to 90 Degrees. I should think that if you had a good cooling solution, and even perhaps tried to actively cool the room by way of a few fans, you (and your chip ) should be ok.

Good luck.

My room gets above 90 on hot afternoons. No case fan and the cover is on...it's so quite and completely stable.

I've never had my room temp above 80 F, so I can't tell you how that effects my CPU(c2 566@ 850~918), but I can tell you that a lower room temp(as low as 65 F) has had no noticeable improvement in stability or "overclockability" for me, if that is a word.

I had my celermine 566@850 running for six days straight without a reboot or crash the other week! In Win98! Of course, that's with the distributed.net client running 24/7, plus a fair amount of Baldur's Gate II playing. Eventually the memory leaks forced me to reboot, because I thought BGII was going to kill my hard drive

Never gets to 90 in my place but:

Sometimes it gets a few degrees over 80 now that they turned on the heat in my building. I figured they'd try to keep the temp lower to save money, but I'm guessing some people complain when it gets below 75ish. The problem is that there is a huge variation in temp in my building.

Anyways, I've overclocked up to 73% over stock speed (FSB 66 --> 115) with no CPU problems. (I'm using an Alpha though.) The main problem is my hard drive. After an hour my IBM gets VERY warm and every once in a while hiccups. Case off it's fine. I think I'll stick a fan on it.

Eug - my hard drive gets pretty warm too - what's the best type of fan to stick on it? Any ideas?

My PIII 700e @ 960 Mhz survived 50+ days of 90 degree weather here in Colorado cracking RC5.

There's a Golden Orb on my PIII, a slot cooler in the back, and a silent bay cooler in the front.

Thats a good question, and yes it does matter. Here in the New Orleans area,it gets quite hot in the summer.Running a 633@950 at 1.75 vlts my temps would be at 104f with minimal room cooling,(80+f)with the air on and the room chilled to -70 the system temp would show 86-89f.But even at 104f(thats the highest).I feel there isnt a problem.

hey guys thanks for the replies. Like I said, I'm leaning towards a celery 2 system cause in general it seems like people are pretty happy with how cool they run, relatively speaking. Not sure how well a duron would do because of the bigger heat output. Any more input?

I run mine at 850mhz 2.0v, pretty extreme but it runs 24/7 without a problem. It sometimes gets up to 100degrees here, and its still fine. I have a golden orb and decent cooling around the cpu, so that could be a factor. My case has mounts for 2 60mm fans at the top back where the cpu is, so hot air is exhausted. The powersupply fan is on the bottom of the powersupply, this 92mm fan sucks hot air away too.

i have my cII 566 run at 952 using 1.95v...boot to window at 1003, temperature full load at 47-49(in hot country Malaysia), idle at 35c-37c(w2k), dual heatsink, three fan...run perfect stable, although i dunno how long the cpu will last at this extreme voltage...if can last for more than one and half year, i won't care to run it there......but anyone can tell approximately how long it will last???
