Question for people learning programming languages or who know them

i guess this is geared more towards college students, because im sure not many people with jobs can do this regularly. but,...

can you program better when your are either drinking or smoking mj or both?

i think it has to do with allowing yourself to do what you know, but may not know you know.

I am learning C++ at the moment and havn't tried anything but sober. But then again maybe that's cause I'd rather not spend my money on crap like that. Now maybe when I'm out of school and making the cash, that might be a different story

Yes, voices in song or otherwise totally distract me when I'm working. I need all of that noise around me blocked out. I know that's not the case with everyone though, cause the guy I work next to listens to NPR most of the day and the other one listens to rock music.

I listen to fantasy music, when I code. I found that I coded the best when I had my wisdom teeth taken out and had a prescription of flurbiprofen. Otherwise, usually when I have caffiene and headphones on for complete concentration.

caffine is the industry standard. I prefer Mt Dew code red. Or Red Bull.

complete silence having had a good night's sleep (8hrs+) with no distractions. Much better in the morning (inbbertween 8 and 11 I'd say was the most productive time).

I found i coded better when listening to music. BUt i also found that i code best if its late at night or early in the morning. I mean if i got "inspired" or it came to me how to do this tough part of the assignment i would go to work and code it regardless of the time of day.

Neither drinking nor marajuana increase your intelligence so no you have the same "chance" to write the same quality code without them as you do with them. They do things to your mind that you can learn to force your mind to do without them -i.e. relax, lighten up, be creative, etc.
