Question for the X1800XT owners

Summary says it, I'm wondering what the guys who held out for the launch of the X1800XT, paid $500+ for it, think about it being discontinued 2 months later due to a far superior product being launched at the same price point?

That would annoy me, personally.

Which leads to the next question:
When will X1800XTs be fire-saled at $400? A trip to Pricewatch shows them "selling" for $494+, if you can believe that.

I will NOT reply to flames in this thread, I'm interested in what the X1800XT guys think about it.

Food for thought: If you think consumers are pissed, what about OEMs who have been preparing X1800XT PEs?! They're obsolete before they hit the market!

Yep. Anyone doing research would have found out that the X1900 was going to come out pretty soon after the X1800XT. We've heard all along the X1800 was late, and the X1900 would be on time.

ATi would have caught flack if they cancelled it, and released only the X1900 series instead, even later. People would have been complaing on forums, and anti-ATi people (you know who) would have ridden that horse hard. The XL was out a month before the X1900. You cant please everybody.

They got the card they paid for, it performs like reviews showed.

Don't bother me a bit, card is just as fast even with faster cards available. I may even swing for a Crossfire edition card to pair up with it during the "fire sale".

There will always be a better/faster product on the horizon. Do you honestly think that the OEMs had no idea about the X1900 or when it would be launched?

Am I pissed, no why would I be? The X1800 is a great card.

The point of this thread???

I have an X1800XL and I'm very happy. Overclocks easily to X1800XT speeds. Spent $290 for it. I can say I got my money's worth.

When you bought the x1800, did you know the x1900 was coming out soon?

As do I, I also own an X1800XL for another of my PC's...and I'm not pissed about the XT or the X1900 cards with that one either

Yes. I bought in December and was aware that an X1900 would be out at the end of January.

If X1800XT PE's are obsolete, I guess 99.99% of PC graphics are obsolete...LOL, I'll bet they'll work just fine.

I'm pretty sure that people who drop $500 for an X1800XT can make that back in 2 weeks time. They might lose about $100 when selling it but they can live with that. Assuming that they all have very good paying jobs that is

Not an X1800 owner but with the latest drivers, the X1800XT has shown itself to be roughly equivalent to the GTX 512 MB which costs a lot more so for people who have to have the best, for the last 2 months, it was a toss up between a 750 dollar card and a 550 dollar card. Of course 2x7800GT's is the same price and more performance than either of these but the additional power/mobo/cooling requirements of an SLI/XFire setup are prohibitive for the many people.

Wouldn't you be pissed if you bought a $450-460 7800GTX card right now when $494 X1800XT can do AA + HDR, H.264 acceleration, offer superior AF and beat the living crap out of 7800 series in COD2 and FEAR?

Woudn't you be pissed if you bought a $650 7800GTX 512mb hoping to purchase a 2nd card later to SLI, only to find out that it became unavailable. Then 2 months later, when it resurfaced again, its price magically rose to $750. Yet a $549 X1900XT defeated it in almost every modern game...Hmmm..

Hmm.

The X1800XT owners seem pretty happy with their choice still, so perhaps I was wrong about them caring about it being discontinued.

We all have to thank Rollo once again for starting a thread like this!!
I guess it's obvious how he wanted this thread to be...

Nope, I'm still happy. Even though I bought my X1800XT 2 weeks before the X1900XTX was launched, I don't mind at all.

It is indeed.

I said I wanted to hear what X1800XT owners thought of ATI devaluing their cards two months after purchase, and that I wouldn't respond to flames.

I didn't respond to the flames, and appreciate the input of the owners who contributed their opinions.

I get asked all the time things like "Do you regret buying the 6800GT SLI now that the 7800GTX is out?"

This is no different, and it's what the video forum is for: to discuss video cards.

Actually, as a result of this thread I had my finger hovering over the buy button on a X1800XL and a X1800XT tonight. I'd really like to see if the angle independent AF makes much difference, but don't want to drop $500 for the privilege. XLs can be had pretty cheap now.

I have an x1800xt. I'm trying to sell it and get a x1900xt/x but if it doesn't sell, I'm not really bothered. It plays all my games to my liking and then some. Curiousity is the main reason why I want a x1900xt/x. My x1800xt, oc'd to PE speeds does quite well in the games that I play so I don't have much to complian about.

What I was getting at is the people who bought X1800XTs for $600+:
a. Have the third fastest card on the market for $600+
b. Had it de-valued by ATI when they discontinued it
c. Could have had a much faster card for the same money a couple weeks later
d. Waited a year for a.,b.,c.

That stuff is known as "rough breaks". Whether it's "almost as fast as a 512GTX with the new drivers!" or not, check out EBay "Completed Items".

Three 512 GTXs sold this weekend for $760., $900., and $976.. Those cards actually appreciated in value.

Now look at the X1800XTs. 6/7 sold this weekend went for $370- $400.. Those guys lost $100-$300 on their purchase within 60 days because ATI hung them out to dry.
(the one card that sold for $484 was an Asus with a game pad and a bunch of games)

You can't tell me this isn't a "topic" when people are losing their shirts over this and the price is going to fall lower still with the X1900XTs falling.
