Question for those who fly

Who here has taken a trip (either personal or business) and has flown different airlines for one part of the trip. Do they switch your baggage automatically? How does the ticketing work? I can see the switching the bags working but I am not sure how the ticketing work? If I check in on Delta and have my second leg on US Air how do I get my ticket for US Air? I have flown many times before but just not on multiple airlines in one day.

i did is once for a business trip that i had to book at the last minute. the corporate travel agent did it to save some $

yes, your checked baggage gets sent to the final destination automagically
you'll get boarding passes for both legs unless they can't issue them (due to limited seats or whatever) in which case you'll have to check at the gate of the intermediate stop over

other that you'll be on a different airline for the second leg, it really isn't any different

Pretty much anyone who has ever traveled internationally has done it. Now think about how many people fly internationally everyday!

Cool! Thanks for the replies. I was just unsure of how the ticketing worked. I have not have had to travel on multiple airlines for a trip so far. Kind of unusual, I know, but I guess I have been lucky so far.

yeah its pretty simple. just becareful the layover time. i once had to make a flight in 20 minutes and i had to go across 3 terminals. barely made it.

and do be smart.....make sure to pack a small bag for carry-on with a few essentials in it as the possibilities for lost baggage increases with changed flights and all (sorry, had a horror story in logan w/ 3 different airlines & bags not showing up for 4 days after)
