Question on CAT5 and RJ45

So I want to move our router/modem into our closet, but there is no RJ45 male plug. The wire on the left is from outside, which is just spliced into the wire on the right, wire for wire. That right wire runs all the way into our router in the living room. Could I just cut both of those wires and add RJ45s? Outside left wire would go into the router/modems broadband input. Then the other right wire would get plugged into the router.

I don't know why you haven't gotten any replies, but from where I sit at work, I can't see your picture. Not sure if it's a link problem or if it's my work network security.

From your description, it doesn't sound ideal. Also, do you have power in the closet?

There's no reason you couldn't throw an rj45 on the cat5/e/6 coming from outside and plug that into your modem.

Make Ethernet cables connections like this is like trying to solve Heart problems with Snake oil.

First step you have to get punch down Strips/Jack and organize everything the way it should be.

You got good advice here but I'll add something. Good practice is to not terminate your CAT5 directly into RJ45 connectors. The CAT5 is usually solid wire. Instead mount a Keystone wall female jack (link above), then use commercially made CAT5 stranded patch cables (male) to your device. Eliminates breaking of wires, and provides nice flexibility when working around router, switches, etc. Be sure and get specific connectors and cable for either CAT5 or CAT6/5E.

The punch down kits are pretty cheap if you look around i.e. Home Depot, but if you don't have many to terminate the extra cost of the tool-less jacks may well be worth it.
