Question on deciding what/when to purchase new hardware

Ok so i currently have a 64 3200+ rig with a 6600GT.

New games demand more juice, therefore i want to upgrade but not sure when would the correct time be.

Vista hasn't launched, I dont know bout DX10 hardware....

When would the best time be? (core duo price drops, good dx 10 vga for good price)

C2D prices won't drop anytime soon, the 1000$ Kentsfield won't push down the price of the E6600, and the E4300 will cost at least 167$ (according to Intel), so the Allendales will not get cheaper this year, either...
DX10 hardware is not worth waiting for, Vista is not available until next summer, and XP doesn't have DX10 support. Nobody has any idea when affordable DX10 VGAs are going to hit the shelves.
This is not a bad time to upgrade.
You could "have fun" with the first generation DX10 cards and a DX10 game or two (not a lot of them are under development) about 9 months from now, but that's not really worth waiting for. It is also possible that there will be a second edition of DX10, so the first cards may not be as long lasting as people would expect them to be (just like the FX5*00/R9*00/X*00 cards).
