Hi all,
My system has become a bit unstable so while I have some time to spare over the holidays I'm going to format and reinstall everything.
Currently I am running Win 98 SE and have two hard drives...my C drive is the one where my OS is located and all of my applications. I also have another physical drive (D) which I just use for backup and Mp3 storage. So the only one I want to format is my main (C) drive. Currently there it is just one big drive with no partitions and I want to keep it that way.
I have only formatted and reinstalled once before and I seem to remember a few choices during the process that I was unfamilier with then and still would be now:
I remember it asking me if I wanted to create a new partition or make a partition active, blah, blah and I was uncertain of what to do. I just want to wipe everything on the C drive...plain and simple. What choices should I make to accomplish this?
Will there be any other obscure questions I will need to answer?
Thanks for any advice.
Gary

If you just wanna format the current partition, just use your win98 boot disk to boot, choose "Boot with CD-Rom support".... After booting is complete, just type "format c:" to format the whole C drive...

Then, drop in your win98 installation CD, go into the CD drive (usually E: ), and type "setup"...

Windows will start installing and everything is done....

Sounds simple enough. Where do I remember those choices from you think?
Thanks

I wouldnt worry about Fdisk, just format it, and reinstall windows from the CD. you may want to run fdisk/mbr just to make sure the master boot record is intact.

ah yes now I remember. I did use Fdisk. I thought that was part of the process?

You only need to use Fdisk if you want to screw around with your disk partitioning. It's not necessary if you're happy with the way the disk is set up, and just want to wipe the data off the drive. Just format it.

Oh, and 98SE is just unstable in general. That's why I won't run the 9x-based OS's anymore. I've got a copy of Whistler that I'm running on my laptop now, you can feel free to worship my leet-ness,.....
