Looks like I am going to be getting the E6600 C2D here and looking to pair it up with a Ggiabyte GA-965P-S3 (best bang for my dollar?)

Never owned a Gigabyte before. Always had ASUS, mostly.

WIth that, I have always preferred that when I am first building my rig, before I really do anything, I always liked to Flash the BIOS before I fully assemble the rig.

I was poking around on Gigabytes website and see that all their BIOS updates are executables.

Do they allow to flash the good old fashioned way? You know, from a floppy?

Secondly, how do gigabyte boards rate? Since this will be my first, curious to how they go.

Lastly, pairing it with some Corsair 240pin PC2 6400 mem...

There is a BIOS update utility inside the BIOS, you don't need to boot from DOS.

Just have the new BIOS on a floppy, go into BIOS (default settings, no overclocking please) and hit F6 (I guess). Then select update main bios from floppy.

Do not update main and backup bios at the same time. IF something fails, you loose the mobo. Update main and if it works, LATER you can go there again and copy main bios into backup bios.

Just like Madellga says except I think it was F8 (it says on the Bios main screen) I just went from F4 to F6 today and it was dead easy. There is also an option to save the original Bios to floppy first incase you don't like the new one or just want to be able to go back.

Yep I have used the Windows to update my S3 2 times now and both times it worked prefect.

Never did the Bios update outside of windows yet as it was not needed.

I have both Plat and Gold, both run perfectly. Try Vdim not higher than 1.95V, specially if it is Plat.
