question on how to handle a registered sex offender

Moving into my neighborhood.

Short story - neighbor is signed up with the county sheriff to get emailed any time a registered sex offender moves into our neighborhood.

Email comes in today - guy has moved in is a registered sex offender. Neighbor calls Sheriff, who tells her the offense was 'gross sexual imposition towards an 11 year old girl'.

Neighborhood is filled with children - I have 4, including a 13 year old girl who babysits 2 houses away from this house, and a soon-to-be nine year old that plays at the same house as frequently as she can.

Anyone have any experience with this? Do we knock on his door and tell him to stay the hell away from our kids, do we say nothing, do we do anything at all?

Do nothing, he's on the sex offenders register... He already knows to stay away from your kids.

Say nothing. It wouldn't accomplish anything. I'm sure he already has an idea of the reaction he'd get if he were caught doing something. Just tell your kids to watch their asses, and recommend the same to your neighbors.

It's the ones who don't register that are the problem.

Oh, and go check out how many are already living in your neighborhood: http://www.familywatchdog.us/.

We had one move in last summer and the community went bat shit crazy over it, when there were already ~30 others living in the area that nobody seemed to care about.

And while were discussing the subject, remember that many of those "sex offenders" are 19 year old guys who had a 16 year old girl lie to them about her age. Thumbs down for zero tolerance.

Do you have a neighborhood watch or association? The best thing you can do is to get the word out, so that your neighbors are looking out for any kind of suspicious behavior, from this guy or anyone else.

Give me a break. How do you deal with this? You know who he is. He knows you (everyone) knows. What do you want to do? Give him a stern warning not to touch your kids?

I can see that those of you saying, basically, what's the big deal - have no kids of your own..

and for the record, he's a 66 year old man, who was busted for gross sexual imposition with an 11 year old girl

How old was he when it happened, and was she hot? :sneaky:

D:

Seriously though, if he's paid his debt to society (prison time, etc.) and is complying with the law, you don't get to "handle" him - he's got as much of a right to be there as you do. So tell your kids not to hand around the dude, tell them why if you want, and then stfu and gbtw.

Let me guess, you're gonna bus' a cap in his ass, eh tough guy?

Try raising intelligent kids that don't let themselves get in a situation where they're alone with a 60 year old man.

And when was he busted? Fifty years ago?

You don't want to get into trouble with the law yourselves, but i'd certainly let him know that the neighborhood is aware of his conviction and that everyone has their eyes on him. It's a tough and ugly situation to have such a threat close to your loved ones, you have my sympathy. Keeping your eyes open and having an uncomfortable talk with the kids would be a good idea.

Simple...

I had one that lived in my neighborhood around the corner. Knocked on his door, introduced myself, and said you come around the corner and come 100 feet within any of my sisters or my neighbor's kids. Hell will be paid. Here's a welcome basket. Have a nice day.

For as long as I lived in that house, he always went the other direction, or crossed the street when I walked my dog.

So what did the sheriff tell your neighbor to do? Did you think about contacting the sheriff yourself if you didn't know what to do? Nope, you decided to ask the interwebs.

What do you think the sheriff would say? Would it be sure go knock on his door and harass him until you get your point across? Or would it be leave him alone and just keep an eye on him and discuss with your kids the situation? Honestly which one sounds REASONABLE?

Also keep in mind that some states have laws against abusing the registry. That's like a 3 for 1 deal. He's still living there, and you've commited 2 crimes. That doesn't sound like winning to me.

The only choice is to put a scarlet P on his forehead and chop off his dick... I don't know why this wasn't done in the first place...

PS

I have kids but that doesn't excuse any attempt I may make to force someone to live the rest of his or her life in shame, solitude and fear after the agreed-upon proper amount of punishment has been administered by society.

Just don't let him play with uncle Hank who likes to make sure the kids take a shower in his house after he brings them to the pool... and isn't anyone's uncle... and thinks that the kids like night-court because of the raunchy jokes... and wears tighty-whities around the house while you play his video games... and to whom your parents offer you in exchange for some money...

Or was that just me?

You have a choice to make:

1) Decide that a man who does his time in prison has paid his debt and should be reformed (or he shouldn't be out of prison). You can't know this 100%, so you keep an eye on your kids (like you should be doing anyway, because you never know who is a sex offender. That guy you just saw 2 seconds ago could be a sex offender who has never been caught!)
2) Live in total fear, hide your kids, hide your wife, build a bunker, hell move out to the middle of nowhere with a no trespassing sign, homeschool, and collect guns.
3) The prison system cannot work, he will offend again. You have to kill him. I suggest starting a thread on the best way to quietly kill a man and hide the body.

I vote for 3, it would bring more lols.

Fuck that noise. If he molested a 11 year old, he deserves no privacy or rights. Rehabilitated my ass. BTW I thought sex offenders were required to go around and let their new neighbors know that they are one? (or maybe that's just in the movies).

Inform your Kids/Neighbours. Confronting him is pointless.

Agreed on the first point. Disagree on the second. Letting the pathetic piece of shit know that all the neighbors know about him might be the one thing that keeps the shit from molesting again. Personally, he should have been executed.

Yeah, tell your kids to be careful around... EVERYONE! Including family members, not just your one neighbor.

Believe it or not, many sexual deviants aren't on the sex offender list...Yet

You should threaten him with physical violence. Preferably in writing.
