Question on Overclocking my CPU

I used to have a chart a long time ago but due to a hard drive failure, I no longer have this and have failed to find it.

I would like to overclock my FX-57 (San Diego) from its stock speed (2.8) to at least 3.0 if possible.

My Motherboard is
Asus A8V Deluxe (Socket 939)

I know how the mutlipliers in the BIOS work and how to change them, that is not an issue I just want to overclock this CPU safely. If I remember right I had to up the voltage a little bit on switching to 3.0GHz but I cannot remember for sure so I'm not touching anything.

Currently my CPU is set to 2.8GHz @ 1.4 volts.

My computers cooling system is fan cooled, however I have a great heat sink, which mounts a 120mm fan without an adapter, aswell as a "Wind Tunnel" in my case with fans on both ends, so air flow is great.

So that's the cooling system my PC has.

On stock settings my CPU run at average 32/33 Degrees Celsius, while in games (BF2, Quake Wars, World of Warcraft) My CPU will stay between 36-37 Celsius.

My main question here is what clock speeds require what voltage level? What should I try?

I'm sorry if I was messy or unclear

yeah, with that small of an oc just try to jump up the multiplier to 15x (since it is unlocked on an FX chip). If you can't pass orthos at that then bump up vcore one step and try again. Repeat as needed. Realistically you should be able to get 3.2-3.4 depending on how much you're willing to bump up the vcore.

Hi Si1v3r, I have a similiar motherboard (the A8V-E Deluxe) paired with a San Diego 3700+ (2.2 Ghz stock). I have my CPU clocked at 2.77 Ghz, with the voltage set at 1.5625v with no problems. I run a Thermalright XP-120 heatsink with a Yate Loon fan and idle at 32C, and will not even hit 50C under heavy load (the Sandra 2007 "burn-in" test).

Of note though: I also up the CPU VCore Offset to +200mv, which causes my VCore to read 1.63v, of which I am pretty sure is not accurate, given my temps. I have not actually tested the board with a voltmeter, so who knows? Most forums I have seen claim up to 1.550v is pretty safe for the San Diego chips. But like all overclocking, do at your own risk.

I have run my chip for nearly two years at such settings with no problems whatsoever. I am upgrading next week to an AM2 X2 chip on a Foxconn 590 SLI board, so my trusty San Diego will probably end up as a replacement for my uncle's archaic 800 Mhz Socket-A dinosaur. It has been a nice chip, and may your chip serve you as well as mine as served me. Good luck.
