Question on PCI card placement

I have an exhuast fan that is used in a PCI expansion slot. It does not actually use the pci, but there is a plastic piece that fits into the pci slot to hold the fan in place. My question is, can I leave an empty pci slot for my fan in between my pci cards? For example, if I have my AGP card, then my fan taking up the first pci slot, then i put in all my pci cards, will Windows still right the same way it did when the cards were plugged in starting with the first pci slot? Thanks

Windows will probably redetect any devices that you move but it'll work fine.

I normally don't put a card in the first pci slot anyway. This shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, you can put that fan in any slot (except AGP) with no problems at all. I'd do it the simple way by just removing the card from that first slot and relocating it to the "bottom" of the slots. The system will most likely redetect it and go on merrily. Then install your fan.
BTW, those "System Blower" fans are a real waste of Power Supply leads. Tests have shown that they don't do squat and cannot push anything remotely close to their "rated" CFM. You can get much more benefit fitting in regular fan on the back of the tower. Even a 40-50mm fan is better for exhaust than the System Blowers. I have done this both ways and run temp tests and it was "No Contest". Just my observations............................
