Question re EVGA warranty

I have a 7900 GTO which I absolutely love. Lately I am getting a lot of artifacts even at stock speeds, and now the card won't display at all in windows (but will display - w artifacts - in the bios screen and on boot up).

The card is getting power from its 6-pin power connector. I have a nice big PSU and I have not changed any components recently.

If I RMA the card to eVGA -- will I get another 7900 GTO/GTX? I read in a couple of threads that they send some 8600xxx model as a replacement. That would suck. I really like my 7900 and I have an aftermarket cooler that would not fit a new card with a different config.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If EVGA has refurbished units in stock = yes.

If not = no.

They may try to pawn off a crap 8600 series on you.

If they don't have another GTO, accept nothing less than a 7900 GTX or 8800 GTS 320 MB.

I wouldn't accept that, as that's basically getting screwed over with a far inferior card.

Yep, you should read their forums. People are always getting burned with the 8600GT substitute, however upon bitching and moaning about it it seems many of them get 7900GTX's.

OP: Have you physically checked your card? Maybe the heatsink is clogged full of dust and the card is just overheating? Also it's possible that the HS has become loose and is no longer making contact w/the GPU. Might want to check these things. Easy fix and no warranty hassles if this is the case.

Take out the card and blow it inside and out really good with compressed air. Do the same thing for the rest of your PC, and make sure your case fans dont have any accumulated dust. If your stuff is squeaky clean and you still have problems at stock settings, RMA it. I doubt you will get an 8600.

If none of the suggestions help, good luck with the RMA. In general, eVGA will work with you. I find it's better to call them than email. Make sure you write down the name of the person you talked to and your ticket number.

I recently sent in a 7900GT KO, and they replaced it with a 7950GT KO. So there's a chance you might get something better than expected. But most likely you will just get another 7900.
