Question regarding 27" 1440p monitors

Hi

Currently awaiting a refund for my 23" 1080p IPS monitor and I'm thinking about forking out a few hundred dollars on top and getting a 27" 1440p monitor. I believe IPS would be better than 120hz in my case as I'm not really heavy on the online FPS/racing games.

I just have a few questions that's making me think twice about 27" 1440p.

  • How will 720p/1080p movies/tv shows/anime look on a 27" 1440p monitor?
  • How will pc games without 1440p support look at 1080p resolution?
  • How will consoles such as 360 or the upcoming PS4 look on a 27" 1440p monitor?
  • Is an i5 4670k 4.1ghz + gtx 670 enough for a 1440p monitor?

Cheers.

1. Looks fine.
2. Havent tried, they all support 2560*1440 that I have tried.
3. Its irrelevant what consoles support. The ports will fully support 2560*1440, just as PS3/Xbox360 later ports.
4. Depends, I feel a single GTX680 is fine with a stock i5 4670.

1. Looks fine, but 720p is best for scaling as it kinda halves it if you know what I mean.

2. Killing Floor doesn't support 1440p and that is fine at 1080p, in actual fact if you want to get better setting then you can drop it to 1080p. I haven't wanted to do this yet though!

3. The same as usual.

4. Yes, my rig handles anything really like Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs and Battlefield 3 at Ultra 60FPS and 1440p. No AA but it isn't needed anyway. Will be interesting with these new games on the block right!!!

The cheapest and best option for 1440p right now can do 120hz as well (and is PLS [ips-like]). Also has low input lag because of lack of lots of ports (only dual-link dvi)

Pretty much if you are buying a new monitor it's best to get a 1440p one for future use if nothing else.

And remember, if things don't support 1440p, then you can always have it NOT scale the 1080p signal to the monitor (you can control this in the Nvidia Control Panel) and you are basically using your 1440p 27" like a 1080p 22ish".

Think I'm going to pass on this as I don't believe my GTX 670 is up to the task of running games at 1440p/60fps.

in general the higher your native res then the worse all of that lower res content will look. 360 games look assy on any 1080 monitor I have used so I cant imagine running them on a 2560x1440 screen.

Simple idea, only play console games on your TV. Failing that only play on PC I haven't brought a game for 18 months till a couple of days ago when I picked up GTA V.

EDIT: I mean a console game, take a look at my steam library and it has over 100+ games in 18 months lol.

yeah console games are painful to play and in most cases look at on the monitor. they are better suited to tv and sitting back quite a distance. I only have a 360 and PS3 for the exclusives and sometimes I wish I had just not even fooled with them.

I haven't had problems running any game with my 670 @1440p. I average around 90ish fps with most everything cranked up.

I'm thinking I'm going to order a qnix 27 evolution II. Glossy or matte? I have 2x7950 in CF and hope to game at ultra settings at 1440 at over 60 HZ. 120hz would be ideal but not sure if my cards can handle that

I would get matte because I hate glossy but its a personal choice that no one can make for you.

and you cant stay above 120 fps in some games no matter how much gpu power you throw at it.

I saw that it looked good. Would love to read a hands-on review.

I've a 7850, but I usually play one generation behind.

Any 1440p users there with anything close to my GPU able to share their experiences?

I was going to order from overlord but they are out of stock and at least 2 months out of delivery. Dunno how you run a business without stock for that long but I digress. The Qnix is 200 cheaper so Ill consider upgrading to the new AMD GPU soon. Will write up a review when I get it. Most people seem to really love them.

It's cos their monitors are awesome and sell out as much supply as they can get, still very widely'll quickly despite them being in business for a year

Ordered 2 pixel perfect Qnixs last night. Hoping my setup can drive them. I know WOT only supports a single GPU
