If I upgrade a paypal account to recieve CC funds, I know those have a fee attached to them and I don't get all the money sent my way.

However, what happens if someone sends me paypal funds, once I have the upgraded account, are they still subjected to that fee?

Ya, I think all transactions get the fees applied. I've been using it pretty heavily this month and have yet to have one with no fee. Not sure which ar CC and which are transfers but I've had 100 some odd payments made so I figure at least one is a transfer.

Yes after you upgrade to premier account all incoming funds are taxed with a 0.7% + 30¢ to 2.9% + 30 fee

Yep, that's why I state in my e-bay ads I don't accept CC PayPal payments but I do accept PayPal. It'd be better if they just charged fees on CC based payments. With my free account, there are no fees at all, no fees to send money, receive Paypa fund payments, or transfer money to my bank account. Wonder how long that will last?

Hi,

Yes, all incoming payments to a Business/Premier account are charged fees. Users that would like to reduce their fees can:

a) try to apply for merchant rate pricing (2.2 and .30). eBay feedback is a consideration (I believe volume requirements are 1000.00 per month to qualify)
b) go PayPal Preferred (applies to mentioning PayPal as the only online payment service in eBay auction listings. Users can still put whatever they like in their eoa/wbn notices to their buyers). Going PayPal Preferred can save you money when you are using the PayPal Debit Card for purchases (1.5 back on the purchases).

I would also keep in mind that only Business/Premier accounts qualify for Seller Protection (protection from reversals if the Seller Protection Program is followed).

As an aside for you all, I do have some PayPal t-shirts here. If you would like one at no charge, simply PM/email me with your name/size (I am out of medium)/address.

I have been using Paypal to send money but I have not been using it to recieve money. I am about to put a bunch of Items for sale and I was wondering if Paypal just transfered the money to my bank account, sent a check upon request, kept it, or what.

Hi ynotravid,

Money sent to you would appear in your PayPal account. You would then have to request a withdrawal off of the web site (Withdraw tabs).

These are the options users have when they receive money in their account:

a) send the money to someone else
b) withdraw the money to a bank (faster than check and no cost)
c) withdraw via check (must be confirmed address-costs 1.50)
d) PayPal Debit Card (use the balance in your PayPal account to do purchases/atm withdrawals)
e) PayPal Virtual Debit Card (same as d, but different)

As a side question, I was wondering why you all buy/sell in the forums vs. established auction sites (such as eBay,etc.) Just a little curious...I notice a lot of people selling items here.

No fee's involved for listing an item and no fee's attached to the buyer or seller.
Your also not compeating with 1000 other people selling the same item.

Hi,

One other question...

Since you aren't dealing with an auction site (which provides feedback, etc.), how do you decide to go through with a deal without fear of getting "trolled". Do you ask for references from other members, look at their PayPal reputation number, ask for additional information, base it on the number of posts, etc.?

We base it off of heatware ( heatware.com ) and recomendations from other traders.

As Evadman said we rely on heatware.
If you click on the heatware link in my post, it takes you to the heatware site and shows you the number of pos/neg/ and nutral evaluations that people have left for me. You can also read the comments they left about the deal we did.

Hi Rick014,

Thanks! Two other questions (open to other posters/lurkers):

a) are there any other forums that you think I should look for PayPal issues?
b) is there anything PayPal can do to improve our service?

If you go to any heatware users link, and click on "add heatware" a bar will come up with all the places that have fs/ft forums, and would likely use paypal as well.

I'm here. I'm just not a fan of online payment systems anymore. Half the time its cheaper for me to run a fed wire. That and an instance where a vendor was told that I had used fraudulent funds to pay him (FALSE) took the cake.

is there anything PayPal can do to improve our service?

Yes. Friend of mine has a restricted account and it's hell for her to get it unlocked. Why are you required to fax information in when it would be much easier for her to email it? Would you be able to help her personally get this done faster?

Perhaps not a direct service improvement, but one nice item would be to have a FAQ refuting the claims of sites like Paypalsucks. I'm curious myself as to how much truth there is to what they say... though I'm forced to take it with a grain of salt. Notice all the referral links on the paypal alternatives page.

(now I'm just going to answer some of the other questions you had in an unorganized manner)

The FS/T forum here is just a much more friendly enviroment than eBay. Because the community is more intimate, you can be sure that someone isn't going to ruin their reputation with one bad trade. Heatware is different from eBay feedback -- on eBay, negative feedback is received from idiot buyers all the time. On Heatware, heat will personally remove inappropriate feedback. That means that if someone has a negative, most of the time they truly earned it.

Also, sellers are willing to sell their goods at cheaper prices because it is easier to deal with those of AT than the masses on eBay.

I have never seen someone judged based on their paypal reputation number. Once or twice I've seen someone mention it in addition to their other trading stats, but never as a sole measure of whether they are safe to trade with. It's just too ambiguous.

Posts are more or less worthless as a measure of someone's trustworthiness, unless the post offering items for sale is their first, which is a huge red flag.

I have one question for you:

Does the "virtual" paypal debit card allow you to use your paypal account like it's a credit card? As in, being able to go to any online commerce site and entering a one time use number paypal gives me that deducts the amount of the charge from my paypal account.
Is it easy to sign up for?
