Questions about Antec P182

I?m thinking of buying an Antec P182 case and I have a few questions. Will a Tuniq tower CPU cooler fit in this case and can I use an Corsair PowerSupply (PSU) 620W HX ATX in this case? Is it possible to have the fan on the PSU pointing upward? Last question is if it is possible to mount an extra fan in the front that blows air directly at the CPU.

What motherboard?

I have the tuniq, corsair 620 and p182. All are fine together. I have a gigabyte ds4 rev 2 btw. In my situation I could have aimed the cpu fan in any direction but I chose blowing towards the rear 120mm fan.
Not 100% on your last question. I would imagine there is a way to mount a fan in the upper chamber blowing on the cpu (providing you only have an optical drive in the upper or maybe lower bay). Not sure how you would mount it to be study though.

I got a Gigabyte P35-DS3 motherboard.

I got a Quad 6600 CPU and a GF 8800 GTS that produce a lot of heat and I don't know if the intake fan on the P182 will be enough. I only have one DVD-drive in the case so it would be nice if I could mount a 120mm fan in the front.

1) Tuniq Tower will fit. Generally, blowing toward the rear exhaust is the best idea.

2) Corsair 620HX will fit. The PSU cage allows it to be oriented with fan on top or bottom (though, for cable-routing purposes, it is better to mount with fan on top, so you are fine.)

3) ^^ Tyler is correct, but it will take up 3 5.25 bays. You will also want to add another fan behind the top HDD rack.

Scythe KAMA BAY

What a waste...you can go to the Antec parts store here and buy a spare HDD cage that normally goes on the Antec 900. It is the same price as what you posted and supports 3 HDDs in the event you ever wanted to add them. Much better option IMO.

Maybe.

But he wants to add another fan to keep the cpu cool. Not 3 hard drives in front of the cpu blowing hot air on it.

What a waste. And you also have to remember that there are already 6 hard drive slots in this case. Why add more, if he wanted more he would buy a case that was meant for allot of hard drives, such as the v2000.

I just got my P182 today and I installed the Tuniq Tower on my Abit IP35-E motherboard. The only problem that I had is tightening the thumb screws that hold down the Tuniq. The 2 rear screws are a PITA if you have big hands but I managed to get them tightened after about 20 min. There just isn't much more than 2-3 inches to work with between the Tuniq and the rear and top exhaust fans. Other than that the tower fit fine. I have about 1/4" of clearance on the sidepanel to the top of the tower.

Yes, the PSU can be mounted either direction. I started off with a Corsair 620w that turned out to be DOA so I am currently running on a Mushkin 550w. Both PSUs fit just fine.

And yes, it is possible to add another fan. There are 2 pull-out trays for hard drives and Antec recommends you use the lowest of the 2. At the bottom of the case there is somewhat of a windtunnel effect as the fan in the middle pulls cool air in from the front and then blows it out the back. This cools both the hard drive and the PSU. They provide you with 2 clips to install another 120mm fan on the other hard drive cage which would be blowing directly onto the Tuniq.

Kama Bay is absurd. $20. for almost no CFM (you should be able to choose the Scythe fan you want in it)... Aerocool makes a nice fan bracket that they use in their Masstige/CoolView/Zero Degree group of cases. It will fit in behind your mesh bay dress plates and hold whatever 120mm fan you want. Maybe it can be had as a replacement part. Give 'em a little social engineering: "My idiot brother left it on the floor and my Dad stepped on it..." Maybe send you one for free. But you didn't hear it from me! Try to buy one if all else fails. Or maybe figure a way to duct some air directly to the CPU fan.

Isn't it possible to attach the heatsink to the CPU before installing the motherboard in the case? With the case I currently have I can remove the motherboard with the heatsink still on.

I was wondering that also. There's no way I could install the heatsink onto the mobo after it's in the case.

I kinda miss the old days of the heatsinks with the spring tension thing to secure heat sinks.

Honestly, that's a great suggestion. I wish I would have thought about that. I would think it should work provided you have a long screwdriver to install the motherboard mounting screws once the board is installed.

I guess with all those new parts in front of me I failed to see the forest through the trees.

Who says you have to install any HDDs in it? Without them it still acts as a tunnel to funnel the air in. The Antec 900 comes with a pair of these. I put HDDs into the lower cage and the upper cage just has a fan so it blows right through.

If he put HDDs in there they would run much cooler, which is always better for something with long term storage. I don't know what you mean "blowing hot air on it". The air is quite cool even after going over the hard drives.

Four of those HDD "slots" on the Antec P182 are crap in my book. The lower chamber is a joke and doesn't keep the HDDs very cool at all. Just barely cooler than they would be by themselves without a fan.

Is there a problem with the bottom pci-slot on this case? I have heard that on some cases you can't use the lowest slot.

with the powercables routed through the hole, rather than around the back, you can't use the bottom PCI slot when you have a full sized card
