Does it make sense to have 2 burner in a rig? or 1 burner and a dvdrom? Which setup do you have? Just having 2 dvd drive in my system, I am able to copy files back from dvd-r twice as fast. So I'll say, the more the merrier. *** recommended ***

I don't understand why peeps have 2 optical drives. I know, a lot of noobs buy a Dell or HP or something, and it comes with 2. Why?

I'll never need disc to disc copying. Writing/reading is much more secure, and extra time involved is minimal. If you verify the burn, error correction wolud be faster.

EDIT: Not implying anyone here is new

I have a Pioneer 109 DVD-RW and an LG DVD/CD-RW. It's useful to have 2 optical drives - it means I can do two things at once, eg rip a DVD and watch a DVD, burn a DVD and burn a CD, etc.

No reason why you cant have 2 DVD burners - I think it's a good idea.

I think it is perfectly reasonable to have two drives...not necessary..but perfectly reasonalbe. I have two, but not because I "chose" to...it just happened.

I have a DVD+-RW DL burner and a DVD-ROM drive - for the reasons people have stated above. In my SFF build for college I'm only going to use my DVD+-RW though - there really is no need for a second drive if you don't *ahem* "clone" discs.

I have a cd-burner and a dvd-burner. I already had the cd-burner when I bought the dvd one. Couldnt hurt to have two unless it's making your power supply suffer.

I have 3 optical drives. I had a DVD/rom and a cd burner to begin with when I added the DVD burner. I only use the DVD burner to burn DVDs, and put the everyday wear and tear of reading and burning cds on the cd burner, and use the DVD rom just for reading DVDs. The DVD burner is the most expensive drive, and I expect it will last a long time by restricting it's use.

I use to have 1 burner that being dvd and it was hard to live with, I can't verify disc and burn them at the same time, I couldn't watch dvd movies and burn them at the same time.
I'm planning on adding another dvdrom if necessary, imagine 3 disc all read in 10min instead of 30min. Cool.
hd isn't the bottleneck, its cd,dvd-rom slow as a turtle good for backup and storage only.
I no longer find cdrom/cdburner very useful, althought cdburner/dvdrom combo is better still because of dvd's higher capacity that of which is 7 times. so what use is it if a dvdrom cannot read dvd's.
For those who are wondering why more then 1 dvdrom is neccessary, it is for peeps who have backed up a lot of stuff, and wants to reduce their time at restoring them back into the hd for convenients.

I burn a LOT of DVD's even though I only have one optical drive. I can see having two drives though. Burning a disc while watching a movie at the same time. The occasional disc to disc copies which I have to copy it to the HD, then burn it currently. Backing up data on one drive while playing games that require the originals inside a disc drive also comes to mind.
