Hi everyone,
Like a lot of people on this board, I plan on purchasing a P4 1.6a and overclocking that puppy. My actual specs are gonna be:

P4 1.6A Processor
ASUS p4B533 Mobo
512 MB Samsung PC 2700 ram
WD 120 gb 7200 rpm hd
Maxtor 80 gb 7200 rpm hd
Gainward Geforce 4 Ti4200 128 MB RAM DDR GOLDEN SAMPLE
Lite on 16X DVD Drive
LIte on 40X burner

I'd like to overlcok about 2.4 levels. I have some questiosn about cooling though.

Because of desk restrictions at school, I can only get a midtower. Will that hurt airflow?

Is the retail hsf and fan with the processor adequate?

How many case fans do I need for adequate air flow?

Is artic silver aboslutely necessary?

Thanks.

Ok, lets see. I have a 1.6A as well on a p4s333.

Question .....

#1. mid tower is fine.. I have a mid and no problems at all.

#2. mine is only at 2.1 but I would assume you will be fine. But if you want to step up to something else it probably wouldn't hurt.

#3 As many as possible. I have 5. (2) 80s and (1) 120 intake and (2 )80s exhaust , plus my PS has 3 fans.

#4 Again, probably not but you might want to use some if you get an aftermarket fan.

hope that helped.

A lot of people use Arctic Silver and some fancy cooling setup with an Alpha heatsink and some 80mm fan. I've heard good things about the stock HSF though. My system is going to be almost identical to yours except I'm getting the V version of your board. Go LiteOn! Anyway, I'm goin to use a Thermalright AX478 with a Vantec Tornado (VRRROOOMM). I'm going to get a full tower Antec SX1040B. Basically, if you want to overclock, make sure you have adequate cooling on that midtower. Remember, lots of intake (front fan, side by side setup) and fast exhaust (stack two 80mms). Good case cooling has a lot to do with position of the fans. If you have anal roomates, you may want to get an Alpha and a Vantec Stealth, those are super quiet but at a price (low CFM and low coolage). Otherwise, stick with the stock HSF, you'll probably get 2.1-2.4ghz on that thing depending on what quality chip you receive.
