Questions about proc. upgrade..

hey guys...im thinking about getting a new processor for my abit sg-72 sis645 chipset mobo...most it can take is 2.8 p4 i think, but anyways...i got a 6600gt but i cant even run hl:2 at a decent 30 fps!! im guessing its my celeron, with 128kb l2 and piss poor fsb...

the real question is, what processor can i get under 100 (cheaper the better) that will give me a marked increase in performance? im thinking maybe a 2.2 p4 or something, im not sure though...opinions? if you give me prices, try and give me a price that someone might sell one on the forums for...

How about one of those Fry's Sempron 3000+ specials with the ECS mb(nvidia chip) for about a hundred bucks and then sell your old stuff...?

Aside from a new AMD motherboard/CPU combo (Frys/Outpost Hot Deal or $150 for Sempron 2800+ and Chaintech VNF3 at newegg, $175 for Sempron 3100+), your best choice is probably a used Northwood P4 from the FS/FT forum.

Anything slower than a 2.4C probably is not worth it. You might be able to find a 2.4C that someone was able to stably overclock to 3 GHz.
