Questions about temps with i7-4790K

Got my rig updated from AMD to this today with a Gigabyte Z97 UD3H Black as well as a CM hyper 212 Evo.
The cpu temps in bios hover around 53 C while the Intel Stress test shows it to be around 37-38.
When the shop installed the board as well as the 212 Evo they had to put the fan on the back instead of the front due to it not clearing my ram. My case is a Antec 900 and I think{?} that the rear fan is a exhaust fan instead of a intake fan.
If the back fan is indeed exhaust wouldn't that be counterproductive being that it is only a few inches from the Evo fan?
And would the system benefit from the fan being on the front?
Are these temps normal?

I doubt the fan being in pull is going to be a real major issue, comparatively.

If you mean the fan type, I hope they didn't pull a switch on you and put a lighter pressure fan on it.

Its a tight fit but I was able to move the fan to the front instead of the back{just barely cleared the ram}.
Are the temps normal for that processor with the 212 EVO?

Hey,

I don't have the same setup as you exactly, but that's my board and I have a similar but not exact same heatsink. I've been fighting heating issues too. It seems like there's a pretty prevalent issue here.

I can't say for sure of course if your problem is the same thing, but I found this link useful (though a lot of the talk about voltages, etc. are well above my paygrade):

https://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-23517

I've done some adjustments in the Intel software and have gotten the temps in their 5 minute tests down to about 75. That still seems high (though at idle I'm happy with it in mid 20s-low 30s). so I'm going to order some paste and maybe a new fan to see if that helps.

As much fun as I've had with this new build (first one in about 7 years) I'm pretty frustrated over the hours and hours of research I've to do in order to just run the thing at stock speeds. I don't even have my memory's XMP profile applied right now.

Anyhow, I hope this helps, and if you find a "magic bullet" let me know. The people here were great help to me when I put this thing together in the Spring so thanks again to them.
