Questions about the 3870x2 and R700

Will there be any new architecture released this year?

Also I currently have an ATI 3870- I like what most reviews of the 3870x2 say but hardocp review shows hardly any gain and accuses other websites of getting their benchmark results from timedemos which according to the reviewer is not a valid way to do benchmarks. Who is right? Has anyone upgraded from a 3870 to a 3870x2 and if so how much did performance improve?

The article was untrue. I dont have alink at the moment but the slides the article were referencing were about platform(read motherboard and portable)r700 grahpics. So r700 is supposed to be out this year. While integrated r700 next year.

R700 is still scheduled for 2008

I repeat, no delays


Several forums and sites have reported that AMD's upcoming R700-series will be delayed all the way to 2009, but we can confirm that everything looks to be on schedule.

We previously misjudged the speed of introduction and the R700-series is likely to launch in the second half of 2008 rather than later. The base R700 model, a chip codenamed RV770 is already taped out, but ATI doesn?t want to rush things.

At this time there is no indications that the RV770 chip will be pushed to 2009. Nvidia?s counterpart to the R700 is also scheduled for the second part of 2008 and we heavily suspect Q3 or early Q4 introduction for both.
