First, if I were trying to get a GHz from a duron, i'd go with an 800. I've overclocked durons to 600@850, and a 700@950 on the KT7 and A7V. The 700 was at 100 deg F, and as soon as I tried to go any higher than 950, the system wouldn't even post. The only durons i've seen get to 1000 reliably are the 800's.

Also, when you're overclocking, usually stability isn't the first priority, so it seems kinda funny to be talking about o/c ing and stability in the same sentence. I personally liked the KT7, and had no problems with crashing. Abit has been in the overclocking buis. for some time now, and I'd feel more confident using one of their boards for overclocking.

What makes the MSI K7T Pro2a better than the ABit KT7?

First off, the MSI offers comparable features at a lower price. Also, the MSI offers ATA100 and boasts better stability. Not saying that you can always expect an OCed rig to be stable, but it sure wouldn't hurt.

Aside from that, I don't really see any real difference. Its mainly the issues of value and overall quality that weigh in the MSI K7T Pro2a's favor.

I've had a very good experience with Abit's KT7. I ran a D600 at 900MHz for a month before I sold it and got a D700. That's been running stable at 1083MHz for two months now.

I have a duron 700 o/c at 950 right now very stable at 1.725v (in bios) witha MSI Pro 2a board. My temperatures are about 100/104. I've been up to 1ghz fine with 9.5 x 106 but backed it down to 950 until I get a conductive pen to unlock the duron properly. I was stable at 1ghz too. Some Duron 600 will hit 1ghz easily. If you want to be sure, buy a processor from .ocz.safeshopper.com- they'll sell you a processor that they've tested at 1ghz. I think there price is around $700, and you could get a Duron 600,650, or 700 but guaranteed to work at 1ghz or they'll take it back.

So with all this said, through in my vote for the Microstar Pro2a. I almost bought an Abit Kt7 raid, but after reading tons of good remarks on these forums about the MSI board, I bought it.
