Questions about the PSP

Ok I am thinking about buying a PSP. I just need to know besides UDM can it play other movies. Like can I place movies onto a sony memory card and be able to play them back like that. Can I use it as an mp3 player.

1. Can the 169 psp play movies besides UDM
2. Whats the difference between the 250 and 169 psp
3. Any other cool features I would wanna know about.

1. Not sure, but I'm fairly certain it can. I'm sure its video capabilities greatly increase via hacking.
2. The Go is just a different form factor, with no UMD slot, and a slightly smaller (but I believe its supposed to be higher quality) screen.
3. Hack it and reap the benefits.

do not get the PSPgo. no UMD slots so you have to download all games. the cost of the games is NO cheaper.

don't think hte new PSP 3000 (wich is what most being sold are) you can hack.

I have the original psp. Rip my movies and put them on the memory card no problem, without hacking the psp. And yes it can play music too.

The PSP was designed with playing media in mind. As an MP3 player the screen can be shut off to conserve battery life; neat feature.

as for the recap. my grammer is very poor so i always try to restate things just incase my first post isnt understandable lol. although I wish everyone did quick recap's of there post short and to the point no reason to read a huge post just read the recap and get to the point

$86 is not a bad price for 32gb. I remember when the 4gb MSPD cards were that much. Wasn't that long ago.
I wouldn't recommend the MicroSD to MSPD adaptors. From what I've read, they're really hit and miss. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

As for video, the best program to use bar none is Handbrake. Just make sure you set output resolution to 480x272. The PSP uses H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) as its video format.

I'll have to try this one... it's been awhile since I've encoded things specifically for the PSP. The nice thing about 3GP converter is that it has built in settings for PSP (and other things like iPod, etc).

The latest version seems pretty fast. I've had it encode to PSP at 100fps+ on my Phenom II X3 overclocked to 3.1ghz.

To transfer the video do you need a special adapter or can you hook it up through usb. and it will show up as another hardrive. you know just click and drag

It uses a mini-B USB connector. Those are fairly common these days. It will show up on your desktop as any other memory card would. The newer models can also be charged by USB. Just the original can't.
