So.... I finally bought a new laptop... which is a HP Compaq 6910p ...
Onto which I re-installed Vista x86_64 using vLite using HP's kindly provided recovery DVD(Real OEM Vista + OEM Activation! )... with full hardware support,
I was even able to track down the x64 driver for my Fast IRDA port which HP didn't supply!...
My questions are...
Does anyone have a link to the graphical fast-switching utility that actually works?...
cause Start-Tab is useless and I miss Compiz already...
Is there a Cleartype tuning wizard/power tool/gadget/utility for Vista and where can I get it....
Is there any fix for sluggishness when resuming from sleep?...
All in all... its slightly slower than XP... looks slightly better... and (may?) offer me slightly better security out of the box... don't think I'll go back to XP on this laptop... but I don't think I'll pay for Vista for my desktop for a while.
PS I'll get back to getting XGLX working on Gentoo next week , my first attempts have failed, curse you ATI!
