questions about wireless AP/Broadband Routers/Firewalls..

1. to those who have the SMC Wirelsss/Router Barricade combo.. can you open up entire port-ranges? Right now I have the early SMC Barricade rotuer and my only complaint is the limitations to the amount of ports you can open up...

2. Linksys or SMC? Which Wireless AP/Broadband Router would you choose?

3. To those who have the SMC Wireless AP/Router, are there any limitations to the amount of ports you can open up?

I have always been a fan of Linksys and they have never paid me a cent to say so. I only say that because only 1 time have a received a bad piece of hardware from them and they handled it SOOOOOO well. I had ordered 10 new 32 port hubs and one was bad. I discovered the bad part at about 2pm. 9am the next day, I had a new hub arrive from Linksys. That's how it's suppose to work.

yea but do the new smc's let you open up a range of ports...

at home I have an SMC Barricade 4 port broadband router/firewall/print server... it's working great, but the only limitation is that it limits you to the amount of prots you can open up.. 30 I beleive or something.. this is why I'm upgrading

i know Linksys [because my friend has one] allows you to open up a port-range..

but I don't know if the new SMC ones let you do that as well.. from my experience with my current barricade it does not.. well, at least it limits you to how many open ports you can have..

Does anyone here have one of these SMC wireless ap/broadband router units? if so, can you open up a port range? say... 2300-2400 for example..

Have you checked with SMC for a firmware upgrade for your router? Often port forwarding to port range forwarding is firmware upgradeable.
