Questions and Concerns About Sun GDM-5010 21" Monitor

Hi Peoples,

I have been looking into purchasing a 21" monitor to replace my 17". However, the prices on 21" monitors are too high for me, so I have turned towards eGay. While searching, I came across the Sun GDM-5010. It has a Sony FD Trinitron tube. The strange thing is that they use the picture for the GDM-5410. I did a little digging and the only "GDM-5010" that I found on Sun's website is this, but there is a "PT" at the end of the model number.

I did a search on Google to find reviews on this monitor, but only 4 hits come up when I do a search on "GDM-5010." After some more digging, I realized the 4 companies that show up in the results are all the same company, which seemd odd:

Mirage Multimedia Systems
Monitor Mania

I am going to pick up the monitor at their warehouse tomorrow. I haven't paid them yet, so I'm not too worried. I just wanted to find some information on the monitor. The multi-named company claims that the monitors are refurbished, which they are, just not by the original manufacturer. The price I'm going to pay for the monitor is $247.89.

Does anyone have any experience with this monitor or these companies? What do you make of all this?

Actual screen size is 19.8 in by the way..not exactly astounding...


Seems as if all of them use the dreaded Sun proprietary DB13W3 connector. The page seems to suggest that maybe it has dual inputs, one being HD15 but I am not sure.

I JUST saw that monitor in a server room near me....not bad looking....

regardless of inputs, make sure it is not a fixed frequency monitor....sun likes to use these . They need a special PC video card and most I know of are not high performance.

Ok, I got ripped off. I'm taking this monitor back tomorrow.

They say the model number is GDM-5010, show the picture of a GDM-5410, then give you the GDM-5410PT.

On all 4 sites, they claim that the GDM-5010 has an FD Trinitron tube, but this monitor clearly does not. An FD Trinitron tube would be perfectly flat. This screen is a little curved. I wish I had opened it up on the spot to check it, now I have to make another trip back.
