Profit sharing just came in and its time to build a new computer! (My P3 600 just isnt cutting it anymore).

I plan on building it myself, but I'm a bit out of the loop with some of the new technology out now. So here are a few questions.

1. I want to go with Intel, probably at 2.4Ghz. Which Mobo is my best bet?
2. Which RAM should I get PC2700 or PC3200?
3. I think I'm going to go with an ATI 9700 Pro. Will this support dual LCD?
4. Any suggestions on a case? I'm leaning towards Antec

So here is what I have so far:

P4 2.4Ghz
Mobo - ??
RAM - 2x 512MB
WD 80GB 7200rpm
Audigy 2
ATI 9700 Pro
16x DVD - Liteon
52/24/52 CDRW - Liteon

I plan to use this system for moderate gaming and running my business.

TIA for any help!

I've heard good things about the ABIT IC7-G, Intel 875P chipset for Socket 478 800MHz Canterwood ATX Motherboard.

With the P4 definetely get at least pc3200 (if not higher if you plan on OCing -- which with a 2.4C P4 would kind of be a waste.)

I really like my Antec 1080amg case that comes with a true power 430W PS and the 9700pro is a really nice video card (although for the price I might just get a 9800np instead).

everything looks good.

I would look at the Kingston Hyper X ram series 3200 and above. You never know when you want to overclock.

Antec is always solid choice.

Save space and get Lite-on DVD/CDRW combo for under 60.00.

Make sure you get Pent 4 2.4C series.

I'm Asus person, so I'm kinda biasis. But a lot of people on the boards love the Abit series.

newbiepcuser:

I was planning on having two drives so that I can copy directly from the DVD to the CDRW.

Would I be better off getting a DVD/ CDRW combo and a DVD Burner?

I like Asus too. I have an Asus video card and mobo in my current computer. Which Asus mobo model(s) should I look at for my CPU/RAM combo?

Thanks!

PC3200 is a better deal than 2700 or 2100. If I remember correctly, from Crucial, a stick of 512 DDR PC3200 is just a few bucks more than the 2700!

Have fun building your PC!

Budget: Asus Motherboard for Intel Processors Model P4P8X Retail -$99.00
Medium: ASUS Motherboard for Intel Pentium 4 / Celeron Processors, 800Mhz FSB Model# P4P800 Deluxe Retail -$140.99
Highend: ASUS Motherboard for Intel Pentium 4 / Celeron Processors, 800Mhz FSB Model# P4C800-E DELUXE Retail $191

They all differ by chipsets 865/875, extra stuff like firewire.

Goto to anandtech.com main page, under chipsets, and it will tell you the differences.
Seems your purpose, the basic model is fine.

I would just get the new Plextor 8X dual format DVD buner. It also does CDR/RW burning at 40x.
