that shouldnt be a problem. the htt can run at 1000 mhz, and thats only 900. i guess its worth a try though. you must have a stuborn board.

This was asked once before but never answered: do you have to disable cool&quiet only during oc setup/testing or do you have to leave it off completely after you establish your limits and set everything up?

Thanks!

dont use cool and quiet when you overclock. it will drastically reduce system stablility. it isnt designed to be used when the system is not at the rated speed.

you can overclock it a bit, but it depends on the mobo. you can test and see what the highest ht is. i dont think it will give you too much of an advantage, but you can check it out with benchies.

I have gotten my winnie(3200+) to 2700MHZ 1.55v. 10X270X3. The hyper transport can be either 810 or 1080. To which should I set it?

try 1080. thats probably fine. just prime it at 1080, and if it fails, set to 810, and see what happens.

I'm getting some people having trouble when they try to find their maximum memory speed while using a divider (stubborn ppl) or half multiplier.
When you use a divider or half multiplier, your memory is likely to actually run a little bit slower than it reports.

So when they find their maximum, the script will try to make the memory run at what they said is the maximum, but the number shown on their systems is higher than it's actually stable at. And so.. results from my script can result into an unstable system.

So i'd like to advise everyone to stay away from dividers and half multipliers when trying to find your maximum memory speed. (it should be fine to use the results suggesting half multipliers though )
Thanks

There is no need to risk damage with an overclock of your hyper transport FSB beyond the rated 1000. Performance is the same whether it is set at 300, 600, 800, or 1000.

I am overclocking and using CrystalCPUID (a better version of cool & quiet) with no problems, and was using cool & quiet before I found crystal. That said, I haven't really pushed my OC yet using these programs- i'll get to that this week.

i dont think you can really push it to the limits with c&q. you can get a decent overclock im sure.

You may be right. I'm now at 2400 peak with no problems. If I go higher, 2500 will be as far as I ever push it. For the 23 hours a day my computer doesn't need the extra juice & cycles, it is nice to bring it down to .990v and 1060.

Quick question:

If my 3200+ Winnie runs at 38/39C at idle and 45/46 while under load, how high do you think I should safely be able to get to clock?
I am using stock cooling with pre-applied thermal paste. I am planning on getting up to date with HSF's and get one of those, as well as getting a chassi intake fan to match the exhaust fan I got now.

But before that, how much can I OC?

just gradually increase your oc, and run prime95 for 5-10 minutes, or untill the tems level off, dont dont let it get above 55C. every system is different, and its hard to give you a number. i wouldnt over do it untill you get your cooling.

Hi guys,
if you would to keep 2-2-2-5 ram timings on a winchester 3000+
how high could you push its HTT?

in otherwords leaving it at 200Mhz 1:1
but bumping the FSB as high as possible
if so what were the voltages?

the latency wont effect the cpu overclock, just the ram. what kind of ram do you have? also, using a divider doesnt hurt performance at all, so go right ahead.

i am using a Corsair XMS TwinX (512 x 2) PC3200XLPT RAM rated at 2-2-2-5 by SPD
I am running them at 2-2-2-7 now.
considering the price I paid for the Ram to keep my system at cas 2.
I rather go LL then bandwidth at this time.
and see how far I can go
sure, I will consider the divider, does that mean I won't run Sync with FSB then?
I sure hope A64 is not like Athlon XPs where running Sync has more advantage as compared to Async

nope, dividers dont effect performance at all, running low latency is actually better.

ok, im gonna work on that tomorrow,
now I have only bump VDimm to 2.9V,
should I go further?

don't know if it will be damaging to the ram in a long run after 2.9 V
let me know whatcha think

yeah that was what I was gonna say, if memory divider is being used.
in otherwords no longer in Sync with CPU, but achieves higher FSB
perhaps he is saying that there is more to gain then to lose

blasted, all I manage is only 216 to max out stable in Memtest86+
218 Mhz gave me 2 errors after 12 loops
220Mhz gave me plenty of errors after only 2 loops

of course running it at 2-2-2-7
with VDimm at 2.9 V

now I remember Zebo saying that all RAM's should be safe at 2.9V
very certain if I do up it to 3V or higher, I can get a higher MAX memory.

do u think the corsair XMS can handle these kinda voltages?
i know the heat spreaders are no big deal
anyone with the same ram and doing 3V or higher?

sigh, not happy to use my DDR400 XLPT RAM at 333Mhz with a 5/6 Divider
although I should be able to touch 260x9 with it
