I thinking about deleting this thread contents and never mention OCing again after reading how pukes RMA stuff willy nilly they break.guess i'm naive but never knew this horrible attitude was so pervasive... For some reason those material theft threads don't get locked while Software theft threads, which is'nt material theft does, locked immediatly.:| both are wrong but to me RMAing CPU costs everyone real money...

no sticky and overclocking breaks things which you are resposible for, not AMD, not Nivida, not Ati, not xyz mobo maker.

Rollo is always busting their chops about it in video, but it got him a vacation this time  I guess us old folk have antiquated morals the kids do not share eh?

Great info!

Don't get discouraged Zebo. There are always people not willing to take responsibility for their actions. Hopefully older members will encourage these young folks to realize that their actions do have consequences that all of us pay for.

Overclocking is like sex with a girl you meet in a bar. Lots of fun, but a few simple precautions will make sure you do not end up dead.

humble71 - CPU fsb freq is your fsb/htt
DRAM freq will be determined by your fsb/htt and your memory divider setting (133/166/200 - you can tell which one this is because it has less increments to choose from in the BIOS)

To save you some time, just set the memory divider to 166 (it may be 200 by default, not sure), and increase the fsb/htt to around 250 at least. Leave your CPU multiplier at 10x, and set HTT multiplier to 3x or 4x (doesn't make a difference usually). RAM voltage (in Power Management in the BIOS) can be bumped up a bit too, 2.65-2.8 is fine. RAM timings should work fine at 2.5-3-3-10 and make SURE the command rate is set to 1t for best performance, good luck!

Thanks arswihart. Currently have my setup at 2.5 ghz RAM running at 208mhz 2 3 2 5 1t with the 166 divider. Gonna see if I can get the RAM to 200 divider with slower timings. Current using 2 x OCZ400512ELPE memory.

Zebo, I just wanted to clarify: We don't care what the hypertransport is set at as long as it's below 1000, right? So, for example, just for giggles, if I had the multiplier at 3 and the HTT (FSB) set at 250, I would have a Hypertransport speed of 750.

Now, I know I could increase the multiplier to 4 and get a Hypertransport speed of 1000, but what kind of performance hit am I getting by keeping it at 750?

BTW, GREAT GUIDE!!

Not really.. just stay between 600-1000 you should be fine.. here's some proof of that:

It will be interesting to see what I can squeeze out of my shuttle system and my 939 3000+. Anyone have experiance with the SFF? The heatpipe solution to me sounds like cooing is going to be the last of my worries. I just need to get some good ram before I jump into this... That Buffalo stuff looks interesting.

Otherwise, I am at 2ghz with only bumping my FSB and smooth sailing with that.

Gotta a quick question for you guys.

I have a 3200+ Clawhammer, C0 rev. and a Abit KV8-MAX3 mobo. I really like the features on the mobo, execpt for one thing that really breaks the deal for OCing. Since its a KT800 chipset, no agp lock! now, i've seen some stuff in this thread that other KT800 chipsets have a 1/7 and a 1/8 divider, so that I can run my proc higher. I seem to hit a brick wall a 235, because the agp is running at 80mhz! Does this mobo have a divider, and what bios supports it?

CAS is important, but it really depends on what you want to do. 225 2-2-2-5 1T is generally going to be a bit faster than 235 3-3-3-8, but is it going to be faster than 3-3-3-8 at 250, or 260? idk, but the most important thing is to make sure that you have 2t off.

Wha? lol I come from DDR266, 1066RDRAM, and SDRAM background, so you totally lost me on what 2t is

well, you can probably hit 2.6 on stock cooling...i would try that first, and if you REALLY want the extra 100MHz THEN buy watercooling

forget about water unless you're going for silence... way to much money for not much gain... a stock HS is fine for low powered winchesters. But a thermalright XP is basically as good as water cooling. (works with water on same principle)
