Could someone perhaps give me a few tips with overclocking here? I've been through Anand's X2 overclocking guide (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2650), but I've had no luck at all.

I can push bus speed up to 210 no problem, no other adjustments needed. If I try 215 or higher, though, the system's disk LED stays on, and it reboots at the point in POST where it would detect the drives. I've tried everything suggested in the guide - lowering the HTT multiplier, lowering RAM speeds to 333 or lower, etc. No difference at all.

Hardware: Athlon 64 X2 3800+, Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 motherboard (latest BIOS), Kingston DDR400 RAM (2 x 512MB), Gigabyte Geforce 6600GT graphics card, Maxtor 300GB SATA drive on SATA 0, Lite-On DVD writer, Lite-On combo drive, 400W power supply, adequate cooling (even at 100% utilisation, CPU temp is only around over 45C).

Any ideas? Something to do with SATA maybe?

i pretty much get everything in the overclocking thing, but there is still one thing I don't get. I went to gogar's OC optimizer for Athlon 64 and one of the bolded values for the memory I don't get. It says 5:6(i get that) 166(i get that too), then DDR333. What does the DDR333 actually mean(or rather, does it factor into calculating the memory speed), because the actual memory speed I get with those values above is DDR489..... I'm really confused, help. Also, is 5:6 and 166 just 2 different ways to state the mem divider? or are they not the same? In the mobo bios, do the options for the mem divider state in the ratio way(5:6), or the number way(166)? Because if it's in the ratio way, I probably will take a way longer time calculating all the choices of ratios that the mobo gives me.

yeah .. 5:6 and 166 are the same ... they = .83 (5/6 and 166/200)
333 ddr is just 166x2 (cuz it's ddr)
if you run @ stock the memory should says 333 ... are you running @ 293?

dunno if you read my entire post but my actual memory speed is DDR489...... I'm asking what the DDR333 has to do with calculating my memory speed... I already know you have to double it cuz it's DDR. Or is the thing wrong and my memory is running at DDR333?
Here's what is says on the Gogar's optimizer thing: 300 9 x 300 = 2700 5:6, 166, DDR333 = 245.45 (DDR491) 3 x 300 = 900 0.033

i have just about got my new machine togather just a couple parts not in yet.
have a thermal thi chi liqued cooled case ga-k8 pro sli mb.amd 64x2-4400-4 gigs 400-3200 over clock ram 4-300 gig sata hd,s 2 6600 video cards 2 double layer light scribe dvd burners and media 2005 wet coolind cards ram chipset on mb and all 4 hdds but will media run the ram.

well you already know that ddr489 is what you are running... so that's your memory speed... all the bolded stuff is ... is telling you what it is running at without the oc ... so 150 is ddr 300 ... 200 is ddr 400 etc ... and than it says = X ... which is the oc value ... just ignore it ... some mobos use different methods of stating the divider ... .83 / 166 / ddr 333

2. Starting two instances: Launch both instances from each folder and choose: torture test > small FFT's > click OK.

I've installed prime95 in two different folders with seperate shortcuts on the desktop but only one will open at one time. What am I missing?

Running Opty 165 w/the AMD dual core drivers loaded. Is there something in Windows XP SP2 I don't have turned on? Only been on the dual bandwagon for a few days - still learning.

install prime95, create a subfolder in the prime95 folder, copy the exe to the new folder, now click on one exe, go to task mgr, from the process of that 1 p95 running, go to the process and set affinity to cpu1, then go back to the other exe in the other folder and do same, set affinity to cpu0, verify 2 windows in taskmanager to reflect 2 cpus=enjoy

anyone figured out A8N32-SLI settings? Im trying to get my head around which bits the hypertransport and what to set the other (the A8N has reintroduced the northbridge/southbridge setup so now theres an extra bus in there).

stickys only last so long, then they need to be re-stickied. just pm the mod the link and they renew it. they just reset this for another 30 days so if you see it again, just PM them.

Hello All!

I am new to these forums. I found them EXTREMELY usefull when picking out parts for my new system. I have just put together my new system and everything runs like a champ. Everything is stock and I score 7600 in 3Dmark05.

I am at the point now where I would like to overclock the system. I have read the guide multiple times and I am having no luck. I cannot get my system to overclock at all. I have set the HTT to 3x and memory to 133. I cannot clock the CPU past 205 MHZ. I get a message that states that the system is runnin in safe mode and I need to change my cpu frequency if I go any Higher. My system specs are in my signature. I have been searching these forums for days before I finally had to post. Sorry if this noob issue annoys anyone and thanks for the help in advance!.

Just got an opteron 165 CCBWE 0551 WPMW, cant seam to find out about this stepping, does anyone no if this is a good one or not? im runing at 2610MHz at the moment 290 x 9 at 1.35volts memory 166 3-4-4-10 seams very stable but will burn right in before trying to go higher, do you think i can get anymore out of this chip with this stepping?

Ok here is the deal of my frustration...

3200+ Venice core dh-e3
MSI K8N-Neo4 platinum
stock cooling under load at stock it is 34 c
value ram ddr-400 (running it @ 100mhz to take it out of the =)
Thermaltake TWV 480 Watt PSU.

Ok it sems that everyone and there dog can get this chip to 270x10 but me(even @ 1.55v)
it will boot into windows at 250X10 not exactly a great OC
max htt is 370, max ht is 1150,
if anyone has a sim set up as this let me know what you did to get it to 2600Mhz and Up

I just got an Athlon 64 X2 4200 with Tornado 8 and I am trying to overclock it. I read some reviews for my processor that state that I should have no problems overclocking my CPU to at least 2,600 mhz. Right now, I am only able to achive 2,455 at FSB 223 X 11. And I am only able to achive that speed when I increase my CPU voltage by 8.3% over stock (1.47). My HTT is at 5 , when I change it to 4 it does not make any difference. My RAM only goes up to 235mhz.
If I lower my multipliyer and increase my FSB will it improve my speed.

NOTE: I was able to run my old Athlon 3700+ at 2,500 mhz at 232 x 11.

I just got a 3700 san diego chip and an asus an8sli mb. Im runnin a zalman 9500 on the cpu.. I read the guide and followed pretty much best I could, heres what I ended up with.. I have it running at 2.75 ghz. 250x11 , voltage at 1.475, HTx4, 2x512 meg Crucial pc4000 ddr 500 runnin at 400mghz 2.5 3-3-7@ 2.9 volts. , but it will not run at 1T, 2T only.. This is my first amd64 overclock, it seems to run pretty good. It idles at 30c, 100% load running prime95 for 12 hours 41c. memtest86 passes all tests. I get 4213 3dmarks in 06, and 16732 in 3dmark03. vid card is a 7800gt at stock evga speed (445/1.07). So is there anything else I can do to make it faster? anything Im missing? Temps are all great, I just want to know if there is anything Im doin wrong or I could do better.. Thanks in advance... HD

P.S. My bios (1014) is a lil diff than whats listed in the guide, Im kinda lost when it says htt or ht.. seeing as I have only ht x 1-5 or auto.. I dont see what other ht settings its talkin about..

Well, I seem to have figured it out I guess, I can run at T1 if I stick with fsb under 238, at 4xht. That gives me about 2.62 ghz at ddr400 2.5-3-3-7 1T.. with same ram timings and 2t I can now run at 255x11 for 2.81ghz 4x ht for 2040mghz. Its much faster than at 2.62 1T..Stable for 12 hours in prime95, no memtest errors, 30c idle and 42c full load. 1.5volts on cpu and 2.9 on ddr.. I should add Im running crucial ballistix pc4000 ddr 500...

managed to get my get my cpu up to 2627 from 2200.

I've got one question.
Is it better for me to run my ram at ddr400 speed with tight timings 2-3-2-5 1T (htt is at 250 and I'm running the ram at ddr333 so thats ddr416 effective yes?) Or to loosen the timings and up the htt and lower the multiplier.

Oh and does running the ram in dual channel mode affect its potential overclock at all.

Now if I could only get this x1800xl to clock like it should I'd be happy
