When youre counting carbs, and it says for example 1 serving yoghurt has 22g of carbs. 15g of those are sugar, but it doesnt say what the rest are... does that mean that it only counts as 15 carbs?

Some of the "Other " carbs are Fiber (you don't count). But if you are on Atkins, I would count every carb.

No. Some of them may be complex carbs, or other types. It counts as 22g of carbs. Yogurt is sorta special though. I've read that most of the carbs in yogurt don't impact blood sugar. Can't remember where I found it. But, stay away from yogurt for now.

Its ignorant comments/myths like these that give the atkins diet a bad name. Contrary to popular belief, the atkins diet does allow for vegetables and even fruits (in later stages).

Bahahaha! Might as well add some Crisco while you're at it.

Does the diet allow you to eat steak fat covered in mayonnaise? If it does then it's not an ignorant comment.

Thanks for the hot tip! I would have never eaten lettuce, cucumbers, mushrooms, broccoli, etc. when I was on Atkins 3 years ago. Oh wait, I did eat those while I was on Atkins. You better get a time machine if you plan on curing my ignorance. I also ate steak fat covered in mayonnaise and it was gooooood.

Maybe you could tell me how I should excercise while I'm on Atkins as an encore performance of your ASSumptions.

You need to read up more on carbohydrates. Most of the Atkins "no-no's" are complex carbs, such as potatoes, pasta, bread, etc. What manufacturers don't always count on labels is fiber and artificial enhancers such as glycerine. For example, the commericals for Subway's Atkins wrap says "11 net carbs", not total carbs, but net carbs which in their opinion is only carbohydrate which causes an insulin response. I think this is sneaky practice, as they should list total carbs, not net carbs. Very misleading and sneaky

Fiber = anything that you can't digest.

Eat a piece of glass. That is considered fiber.

ugh! my stomach did flip flops just reading that!:Q

Don't knock it until you try it. A big glob of Duke's Mayo on leftover steak fat is tasty stuff. I wouldn't use anything other than Duke's though.

cripes! I was thinkin I was doin good for the day at only around 50 carbs. Atkins wants you below 20 carbs for 2 straight weeks to start this thing off..... thats gonna be awfully hard to do!

After your first 2 weeks (if you don't want to wait longer), you increase your daily carbs by 5 per day until you stop losing weight.

5g/week... not per day...

Yes and no. In the first 2 weeks, you keep under 20g / day == 140g / week total. Then next week, you increase to 25g / day == 175g / week, not 145g / week. That's the difference I was trying to communicate.

I'm in the first phase of Atkins right now and its not as hard as you think. I have a meat stick and some string cheese for breakfast (i'm not really found of omelets which everyone else on atkins eats). I have a lettuce salad with 1 tbs. of ranch dressing on it, one sliced hard boiled egg, and 2 pieces of sugar free Hershey's candy bars. Then in the afternoon for a snack I eat breakfast again but with an extra of the Hershey's bars. Then for dinner i had lettuce wrapped tacos. I browned the beef then put in seasonings to make it taste like taco meat. Tons of cheese and hot sauce on them also. Red Hot sauce is carb free! For a snack in the evening I either have some 0 carb provolone, some hard salami (very low carb). This type of setup is only about 15-19 grams of carbs for the day. Amazingly my hunger that I usually got every 2-3 hours when on 'normal' food is gone. I'm not sure if I'm eating less or not yet. I'm a big guy so if I'm gonna lose weight I'll start noticing it real soon. The best discovery I had was when I realized that I could have pretty much anything labeled for diabetics. Since they can't have sugar (carbs) it is all really low in carbs. So I stocked up on these to give myself a dessert. They make some low-carb diabetic hard candies that are great.

If you're still in the induction phase, you shouldn't be eating any sugar substitue candies. The first phase is very strict.

So I was making these deep-fried butter sticks the other day and thought it would be yummy to fill them with mayonnaise. Then it would be just like a twinky!

Unfortunately, the mayo keeps leeking out into the grease and won't stay inside the butter. Any ideas on how to keep them inside? I tried rolling it all up into a pork-rind crust, but that didn't work so well. I might try to wrap them in cheese slices tonight to keep it all together - that just might work.

I see...

I thought you were saying 20g/day during induction, then 25g/day the day after, then 30g/day the day after that, and so on.

Silly me!

Uhh..complex carbs are good for you. Wow, people need to get a goddamned life. Ive eaten all of the potatoes I want in the past month and havent gained a pound, and I have to watch what I eat.

Good link to help you out.

No kidding Sherlock. Of course they're good for you. I'm just pointing out that Atkins is against a majority of them. Sounds like you need to an anger management class.
