Are you talking about the same toolbar that is in Windows 98? I've never seen it in Windows 95.

hmm. I don't think you can set up a wuick launch toolbar in Win95. Are you talking about the taskbar? That is ont the right side with clock and everything else. If you lost that, restart. Doubt it though. Get Win98SE or Win2K, if you sys can handle it.

My friend got this lil add on thing (not from MS) that made Win95 look exactly like Win98. This is prolly what he means.

I dunno how to do it though, cuz my friend ditched widoze for linux a long time ago.

Simplest way is to download IE 5.0 then right click on the taskbar and highlight the toolbars option. From there a sub menu should pop out. On that menu you should see an option for quick launch. Make sure that a check mark is visible next to the quick launch bar to ensure that it is visible.

It will usually appear on the taskbar. Once you have it you can drag shortcuts onto the bar. You can also position the quick lauch bar in various locations on your desktop.

IE 5 does not contain the desktop update needed to show up the quicklaunch bar in Win95.

If you want the Win98 browser look with the quicklaunch bar sitting next to the Start button, you have to install IE 401 SP2, and install the Desktop Update when prompted during the installation.

I Wonder if I can DL IE 4.02 for the Quicklaunch and keep 5.5?

CRV is correct.. the only way to add the quick launch bar to win95 is start w/ whatever version of ie came w/ win95. then upgrade to ie4 sp1, enable the desktop web enhancements. Then the quick launch toolbar should be available. I believe win95 ver c already has the feature preloaded.

Grey: you can download IE 4.01 SP2, install the desktop update and then upgrade to IE 5.5 without any problems.

I know this is an old post, but I restored an old image with this operating system which I wanted to get back to usable condition, when I was curious about this issue. I did not have access to a 486 or Pentium 1 system so I had to resort to restoring in a controlled environment within a VMware virtualization setup. Not easy to do. I even needed to re-install windows over itself to load the correct hardware drivers and needed to use the original key I had, which I was able to obtain from safe mode using regedit. So nice to have the information so easily accessible.

I searched for information on the quick launch and was difficult to find the correct solution. I was able to add the quick launch, not by the steps you people suggested but by a radically different approach. I felt it was prudent to add the information so others may benefit.

Simply do this:
1: Obtain the ie5.5 installer, from a site similar to oldversion.com and copy it to a folder from your root.
2: open command prompt from windows by running command
3: browse to that folder (type the drive letter, press enter, then cd [folder name goes here] enter).
4: Type this: IE5Setup.exe /C:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_WIN /I:Y"
5: Reboot when prompted.

Upon restart, it will be visible and open on taskbar, complete with active desktop.
IE5 Does in fact have this included, but doesn't add it unless you request it to be added! These steps are taken "after" you have upgraded to IE5. Microsoft routinely bundles in features and locks them away from normal people, without going through steps like these.

There are two slightly different commands for WinNT for the same issue. WinNT is capable of upgrading to IE6, and the command for IE6 is the same.

Nice to have quick launch in Win95.
I just spent 1 whole day with trial and error getting it back up and running, re-learning everything all over again from the old days I owned and operated win95. Quite a refresher on it's limitations, still useful for old DOS applications which are not supported in any OS any longer. Oh the nostalgia.
