Quick P4B266 Overclock question

I am looking to buy the P4B266 and a P4 1.6A. I have a quick question. I am not really interested in pushing past 133 FSB. I will be happy at 16 x 133. I know that at 133 FSB, the memory is not overclocked, but is everything else on the board? Does the i845 chipset support native 133 mhz bus, or is this an overclock by Asus to use this frequency?

The reason I ask is because I have a USB optical mouse and I heard issues of the USB not working at higher speeds, does this include the 133 setting?

Thanks

The i845 chipset is designed for a base 100 mhz fsb but easily overclocks to 133 while keeping everything else in spec. You also have the option to use a 3:4 memory divider to take your memory even further provided you go to a 132 mhz fsb instead of 133. You need decent memory to do this of course.

You can also exceed 133 fsb and still keep the pci and agp frequencies close to spec by using the "turbo 1" optimization setting. This setting puts the pci bus at around 37 mhz and agp at around 73 mhz. That's pretty close to safe for all but the cheapest peripherals.

The USB mouse issue doesn't happen for everyone. Some claim it happens only with certain mice. The P4B266 with USB 2.0 gives you additional USB ports running off a different chip from NEC and these always work regardless of overclocking so you might want to pickup this board instead of the cheaper P4B266-C. I suppose you can also purchase and use a USB PCI card if all else fails.

If you're getting the P4B266 (and not the -C version) then for sure it will work fine @ 133 MHz FSB (with the USB 2.0 ports); I've run 125-140 MHz FSB using the USB 2.0 ports with zero probelms whatsoever. Also I think that at 133 MHz FSB the USB 1.0 ports should be fine. I think its an error that only occurs at boot time, and not once the machine is in Windows.

I have a -C board. Since my old board had only 2 usb ports, i bought a hub. At first i had my mouse and my hub hooked up to the main 2 usb ports. When overclocking past 125, my optical mouse just kept blinking for about 20 secs, then it'll boot. So as i noticed my hub wasn't blinking when my mouse was. I put my mouse in the the hub, and wah la! Blinks normally and boots. NiCe! - Just a tip.
I bought the -C board because i didn't need any onboard audio/nic nor Raid and i have no use for USB2.0 as of now... So it saved me some cash.

@ 133MHz(x4) FSB on the P4B266(c) you are o/c'ing the memory. Native support for the P4's is 100MHz(x4). I am running 150MHz cas2 and all of my USB devices function properly.

I have had my P4B266 retail up to 150 fsb with no problems using my MS Intellimouse Optical and MS USB Internet Pro Keyboard in the 1.1 USB slot. I have my Hub plugged into the USB 2.0 bracket.
