I was trying to figure out from the website whether you need XP or Vista already installed on a computer then you install WHS on top? Or can I just install it on a blank harddisk and it'll be fine to run?

(Yes, I did try finding out from their FAQ but the following text boggled me):

Supported Operating Systems for Home

WHS is a full install of its version of 2003 server, you do not install it on top of Vista or XP, its a clean install only.

I have not read up on it lately. Did they ever "iron the wrinkles" out of it? This was supposed to be a great addition for home users who need simple networks but with no domains, heavy home media users, etc etc.

There was a possible file system corruption issue that is supposedly resolved with Power Pack 1 which I think is part of the eval version you can download (30 days only). You could supposedly order the 120 day eval version too. But keep in mind you'll need to re-install if you buy/purchase the full version. It won't affect any media you have set up already, go to the We Got Served forums to read up on that part.

Most of 'um. There's no corruption problems but some Vista users still have problems pushing large files when using a small drive for the OS.

That is why you follow the suggestions and install the OS on a large drive, even so the issue should not affect many unless they are using a really small OS drive or extremely large files. The issue arises from the way the OS works. Basically all data is first transfered to the OS drive and then it decides what drive it should go to from there. The problem arises when you attempt to transfer a file that is larger than the OS disc has room for. It is a innefficient design but the end product is pretty nice. I have been running one since early December and have been very happy with it.

This issue has been fixed completely for us XP users and was supposedly fixed by the update for all users.

I have no problem using my spare Raptor for an OS drive and that's the way it should be.

Having to use a large OS drive when the OS is only thing that needs to be there and the HD will remain empty when you have enough space on the other drives to hold data, is pretty ludricrous.

The client PC OS doesn't make a difference. With a 150GB drive I couldn't imagine very many people having an issue. How often would someone transfer a 100GB+ file? I know my OS drive is used for storage. I have two 1.5TB drives with everything backed up so both drives are being used. I would imagine most people have a similiar set-up and don't have a dedicated OS drive.

Maybe you can pass a link to me.

The only people I have read with landing zone problems because of a small OS HD after PP1 are Vista users.

I'm running a 74GB Raptor with XP pro and have transferred 300-400 GB at one time with no problems when I set the unit up for the 3rd time.

This would probably be a problem if I was running Vista.

The landing zone problems were supposedly eliminated with PP1 but some users still report a problem.

I'm not sure why you're having a tuff time with this explanation but I have zero landing zone problems while some Vista users are still complaining.

I'm not even sure why it required a "landing zone". I would think my little processor would know what's comming, what it's supposed to do with the input, and send it where it needs to go. The "Let's think about it" landing zone never made much sense to me, but then, my name's not "Einstein".

My WHS has a 80 gig System drive, and 4 tb of storeage. I had the same problem with the landing zone, but couple of months ago MS released a fix for the issue. I now no longer have that problem.
Here is the link to a excelent WHS site http://www.wegotserved.co.uk/
