I've seen external cases/housings for SCSI/raid drives. Is there such a thing for plain EIDE hd's?

No more hd's will fit in my case, but I can add more (I've got a raid motherboard).

Do they make such a thing?

Thanks

Just get a larger case. I would think it would be annoying to have to mess with external crap connected to your computer.

I wouldn't mind it. I'd like to be able to have a number of computers in the house have access to the data on those hd's... I'd think it could be done, somehow. No one knows if they make something like that?

Sort of. I know there are a few people making external housings for IDE drives. BUT, all the ones I know of still use SCSI to connect. They just allow you to use IDE drives instead of SCSI ones. You still need a SCSI card to connect to the enclosure.

You might want to check into firewire drives. Or just get a bigger case as has been suggested.

The IDE specs only allow for 18 inch cables... you won't get very far outside of your case. This is why they don't make external IDE enclosures. You will only find external IDE enclosures that connect via USB/Firewire/SCSI.

Edit: What about adding the additional hard drives into 5.25 inch bays with adapters?

I've seen them, come with an external PSU but as recommended you prolly would be better of with a bigger case or adding the HD's by mounting them on the floor of the Case and/or placed underneath the current bays by L shaped adapters or a piece from an Erocter Set, then Networking to the other Puters in your house

I don't mind that. I'd have no problems connecting to it via Firewire/USB2.0 or something.

Where've you seen those?

NewEgg has a bunch of the Fireware and USB ones. So do most other decent sized retailers. If you don't mind connecting that way there are a ton of options.

How would they 'show up' in windows, after they're connected? Would I assign a letter drive to them?
